I would highly recommend this auto repair business. I don't have an ordinary car as it's a 1965 Olds 442. Not many repair shops would touch this car.
I thought the transmission was slipping and I knew it had a few leaks. Leon told me the transmission did not need a rebuild, just some minor adjustments. He fixed the leaks, replaced the fluid and pan gasket and adjusted the modulator. They had the car for two days and the cost was well under $100.00. Leon and Monte are honest and very knowledgable and I would definetely go back there again.
Thanks Leon and Monte for the great service!
Integrity and honesty could aptly describe Advanced Transmission !
I have a 2004 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 with 92,000 miles on it and I really like it a lot. A couple of months ago, the transmission began slipping a little between gears. For those 2 months, I agonized over where to take my truck to find what was causing this and to get an estimate. I made the mistake of going to one of those national chain franchises. Big blunder on my part (see below). I’m a retired senior citizen with SS limited income.
Fortunately, after highly recommended by a good mechanic, I came to Advanced Transmissions in Mauldin, SC. The friendly receptionist introduced me to Monte, one of the two brother owners. I told him what the transmission was doing, and without flinching or even driving my truck, he told me the problem and how much it would cost . He knew I was frustrated, and advised me to bring my vehicle in the next morning. I took it in, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car was there with my rental car. I expected to get my truck back the next afternoon. At 3 p.m. the SAME day, I got a call saying that my Ranger would be ready at 4 p.m. There it was, all done for exactly what he quoted me it would be! In fact, it was for less than the franchise store wanted me to pay for an estimate! I got in the truck and drove it home and I was thrilled. I have driven it since, in town and on the interstate, and it shifts like a new vehicle.
I couldn’t be more pleased with the pleasant service, reasonable cost, no bait and switch, ability to give me a price on the spot, and the reliability I have experienced since. In addition, they provide a 12 month 12,000 mile parts AND labor warranty. Monte and Leon are honest folks who just want to do a good job at a reasonable cost. And THAT they do well! No lousy games here.
It is my opinion that you do NOT patronize a national chain transmission shop. If you go to get an estimate, it is their company policy nationwide, to get money up front to “take down the transmission” to see what is wrong, then tell you what it will cost. It’s basically a sales job. In my case, it was over $700, then if I wanted them to do the work, that amount would apply toward final cost (of work you probably didn’t need). If you elect to NOT have them do the work, then you’ve spent $700 for NOTHING. I could not get the owner of the local franchise to give me an estimate, even a ballpark “worst case scenario” estimate of having to rebuild the transmission. Would you leave a blank check to a shop like this, that decides how much you are going to spend?
All you have to do is Google any national chain, and you will find dozens or hundreds of horror stories, from scamming, lying, holding cars, not keeping so-called promises. There are ripoff reports for two of the most well known. There is even a site called (blank blank) sucks! In all fairness, the local franchise had one complaint, that involving method of payment.
I HIGHLY recommend Advanced Transmission to repair your transmission without worry. You will be glad you did. If you can’t get there, at least go to a local privately owned transmission repair shop.
Great Service 11/2011 – You wouldn’t think it would take two South African brothers transplanted to Mauldin to fix my F-150, but it did! The drive shaft and U-joint were making a terrible metal-on-metal noise. All I did was walk in the front door, speak to the gracious receptionist, take a test drive, and be sent home – in just 25 minutes. The next day, 22 hours after I left it, it was fixed (not for $900, but for a bill half of that because they decided to rebuild the drive shaft themselves)! It’s running perfectly now. I’ve never seen service like this before, and I’m a huge grouch.
Appreciation 11-24-09 – Dear Mr. leon Jacobs:
I am very appreciative of the service you gave me today when I came in to get my transmission checked. As soon as I walked in, Leslie stopped what she was doing, got the information she needed about the van and immediately turned me over to you.
In approximately one hour you checked to see what was wrong and had the necessary work completed. You did this because you learned that I was scheduled to travel to Nashville in a couple of days.
You can be assured that I will let others know of the professional manner and courtesy you and Leslie displayed not only to me, but to all those that came in to Advanced Transmissions.
Impressed, you bet I was. Thank you!!!
Thank you – 09-01-09 Your friendly and expeditious service that got us back on the road was greatly appreciated. The transmission repairs appears to be doing great!
In reference to drpolitic's previous comments. – To set the record straight:
This vehicle was brought in for a clutch replacement. The owner insisted on supplying his own aftermarket, racing clutch. No work was done on the transmission.
The clutch was installed and the vehicle returned to the customer the following day.
Unfortunately, soon after leaving our facility the master cylinder failed. This is not unusual for a high mileage vehicle that is ten or more years old and is more common in vehicles used for high performance driving.
Our wrecker was sent immediately, but due to the aftermarket body kit, it was impossible to raise the vehicle without damaging the skirting. A second trip was made so that planks could be used to raise the vehicle before loading. All this was done in the rain!
A technician spent hours trying to remove air from the hydraulic system in order to save the owner any additional expense. However, in the end it was necessary to replace the master cylinder. The owner was charged a discounted labor fee and nothing at all for the two wrecker calls!
No dealership would have agreed to fit an aftermarket part supplied by the customer and towing and labor would have been charged for in full.
We would gladly have arranged a rental car if we had been made aware that one was needed. However, due to the fact that the second repair was unrelated to the first, the customer would most definitely have been responsible for the cost.
Between 250 and 300 vehicles are worked on in our facility each month, many from as far away as Atlanta and Charlotte. Our goal is to make each experience a good one for our customers.
It is unfortunate that this young driver felt it necessary to discredit a company that has spent years building a reputation for being fair and honest. Throughout our thirty odd years in the transmission business we have realized that despite our best efforts it is difficult to please everyone, but this will certainly not keep us from trying.
Co-owner Advanced Transmissions
Not worth your time or money. – After repairing and replacing transmission, car was given back to me and clutch pressure was low when driving off the lot and died after 3 miles of driving. Had to tow car back to shop and after 3.3 days was told that the master + slave were needed for replacement to get it to be fixed. Disregard the fact that it was all working before I took it there. Was charged extra for the parts and labor to fix the problem.
Owner said he test drove it, but the other owner had muddled under his breath that he should have test driven it more. Guarantee is meaningless here, everything is your fault or the age of the car. Was told that these are common problems with these cars because they always keep them in stock. Forget that I had already called 3 other dealerships around the area that had nothing in stock and a 3 day wait.
Now car is back and working. Guess what, my trip meter I set before I left was at 3 miles. I get in my car and it still says 3 miles! They did not even test drive the car after it was fixed! No use in ever going here.
When I told them that I have never had this much trouble when I take my car to the dealership, I was told maybe you should go there then. I could have done the work with my friend in less time and I only do brake and tune up work on my car.
Pay the few extra bucks and go to the dealer, at least there they would give you a rental, wouldn't waste your time and money for 5 days and it would still cost less. These people will treat you like you know nothing, regardless of your intelligence and will try to make you leave with a better taste in your mouth by trying to be buddy buddy after forcing you to pay extra.
Only reason they have 1 star is that the front desk lady was very polite and friendly.
Professional and trustworthy – I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing transmission work! The people are very professional as well as fair . I was given a date when all work would be finished and it was exactly done on that day ,with the price I was quoted. If you have transmission issues this is the place to go !
True Professionals – Thsi Firm is the best transmission service I have ever seen. They are the true professionals in the business, I would highly recommend them to anyone needing transmission service. They truly gaurentee their work and backup their gaurentee with prompt service even if it means the will loose money. I have the highest respect for thsi shop as you will if you have transmission trouble.
A honest mechanic – In most of my dealings with auto mechanics there is one prevelant feeling that proveys my dealings with them and that is 'distrust'. Not saying that all mechanics are not to be trusted but few give you a feeling that they can be trusted. Well atleast on the transmission side of things I feel 100% confident with these guys. With expert skills and quality tools and parts that they use I was completely satisfied when I picked up my car from them. They even recommended me to a really good shade tree mechanic when I had engine problems with my car as well.
