Excellent food, service and value – Heard of this place for a long time...went there this past Saturday and I have to say that it is delicious. The price is higher than most Thai restaurant, but the food quality is also much higher and the portions too.
My friends and I had the Satay, crab cakes, and calamari fritters for appetizers and followed it with the whole fried fish, beef kabob ( served on fire table side), seafood pad thai, and thai coconut soup. Everything was great. The waitresses were very attentive and sweet....a manager came by to say hello and made sure we were happy........no stuck up service here.....good strong cocktails too. If you want a Thai place that is a little classier than your average Thai restaurants, give them a try.
Good Food, Ok service – Good Food, if you don't mind Hooter Type looking waitress. My friends like the food too, he said it remind him of Pat Pong or Pattaya. Great Food, Good eye candy.
Film-worthy waitresses serve Thai favorites to an in-the-know crowd. – In Short
A young well-heeled clientele gathers in the elegant dining room for California renditions of Thai classics. The menu caters to local tastes with dishes that are less spicy and exotic than their Thai Town counterparts. Menu highlights include traditional pad thai, chicken-coconut soup and lightly fried catfish kissed with mild red chili and coconut cream. The clay pot is also popular: a stew of shrimp, scallops and mushrooms basking in rich crab sauce.
bad food, bad service – chan dara used to be known for good food, and attractive waitresses (didn't see any of those). i haven't been there for a while, and now i won't be going back, ever! the service was VERY slow and inattentive, the prices on the menu are quite high considering the food is just terrible! the quality has gone way down, i would not recommend this place.
Loud, but yummy! – We went on a Saturday night, so there were a lot of birthday parties, which made the restaurant a little bit loud for us. But the food was awesome-- the calamari chardonay is very tasty. The sea bass is outstanding! The atmosphere is a little weird- not as cozy as I was expecting. I think the neon lights at the bar threw me off. But other than that, this is a good neighborhood place that has an upbeat feel.
Not enough girls for you? – Since when does a restaurant need to pander to a bunch of girl-watchers? This is a reliable Thai restaurant and would be welcome anywhere else but the phony town of LA.
Just went there, food was great and service was well above average (Sorry Garrison Kieler). By the way, I did see some very nice-looking girls.
It's not what it used to be – Ever since the restaurant changed ownership a few years ago, CHan Dara's is just not what it used to be. Their menu has a million items that affords little authentic thai cuisine. THe girls used to be known for being attractive but the last time i was in there, i couldn't find one girl that i would rate higher than a 6. The service was mediocre, we felt like we were being rushed to leave. And the decor just needs a total makeover. I felt like i was transported to the late 80s.
Pretty waitresses, good food – Of course, this place is famous for its waitresses - and on the whole, they don't dissapoint. The food isn't bad either - but definitely a little overpriced for what you get. Try the Peking duck rolls - a tasty little sample of the real thing. Afterwards, head for a drink at the cool bars on Pico.
Good Thai Food – This place is walking distance from my house so, much to my delight, I was pleasantly surprised to have such a convenient and good place for Thai food. The food was fresh and quick, the service (from the very hip looking wait staff) was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. I'm sure this will be in the regular take-out rotation.
Not So Ordinary Thai Restaurant – I love Thai food and know very well what Thai food is like. Even the food here is not authenic like other Thai places, but I found it very unique and delicious. Chilean sea bass, BBQ beef are very good. Beef Tenderloin Satay is also my favorite. The price is kind of high but they give you big portions which is good to share. The waitress are very beauiful and friendly. Best of all, there is a FULL BAR.
When I think of good & nice Thai place to dine in, this is the one.
