Horrible. Horrible HORRIBLE service, In my honest opinion I could have made better food at home in my kitchen. I am not saying the food was horrible but there was nothing special about it all. On the plus side, the milk shakes are the best ive ever had. Please stay away from the food, my whole was not happy with the food. Did I mention the service was HORRIBLE?

Horribly dirty and slow. My dad took me and my grandmother here last year because it used to be the "hip" restaurant when he was younger. This place was so disgusting... the seats and table were sticky and dried up food was stuck to nearly all of the tables. The service was slow too... it was just an overall gross place. Oh yeah and my mashed potatoes were cold too. Not recommended.

Insects on the floor, don't go unless you want a food-bourne illness. We went to this place because it was recommended in Frommer's. What a huge letdown. The food was tasted like it had been reheated several times. The decor is from the 40-50s but doesn't look like it has been cleaned since then. There was a stick in my green beans. We saw insects on the floor. Can't believe this place passed health code inspections.

Long past its prime. After a doctor's visit nearby, we stopped in for lunch today, since my father was craving a chocolate milkshake. The milkshake was good, but, when we saw the rating of 64 posted by the cash register, we should have left immediately. Admittedly, it was our mistake that we stayed anyway. The place is incredibly dirty as other posters have mentioned, the service was so horrible that I finally just went and fixed our tea and cokes myself, and managed to find some silverware behind the counter. A couple sitting behind us did the same. The young woman working at the cash register just sat and talked on the phone the entire time, ignoring the customers. The food was horrible--the chicken breast sandwiches were dry and rubbery, the roast beef overcooked and dried up, obviously left over from the lunch rush. It was all just disgusting, and we will never be back again. It is very sad what has happened to this place.

Best "Old" Atmosphere. Okay - so the food is what you could make at home, but the "so old it's retro" furnishings and the incredible milkshakes more than make up for anything else. Prices are also reasonable too.

Good for breakfast. I like the soda shop, but stick to the breakfast menu. The decor is outdated, and honestly the place does look like it's falling apart...but it has a delicious, cheap, large variety of breakfast foods. Seating is always prompt, and my coffee mug was always full! The pancakes are great, but the hashbrowns look like the frozen kind from Kroger....but you cant go wrong with the bacon and eggs.

Oh, and be aware that they stop serving breakfast at 10:45am sharp...got there once at 10:50 and had to order chicken because it was "lunchtime."

Avoid like the plague. I was really looking forward to this restaurant, what with all the glowing reviews- was I wrong!

The place is FILTHY. How could anyone eat in such a dirty restaurant? Our waitress was snotty

when we asked if the place took debit cards, also. When we got our food (hamburgers and fries), it was nothing special. I don't know where they buy their hamburger, but it's not from the same place I buy mine. The french fries were akin to a store brand frozen fry. While we

were sitting there and waiting for the check, our waitress sat at the table next to us, folding silverware into napkins and burping the whole time! And loudly! It was a very disgusting experience. Please do not listen to the good reviews of this dump and take your money elsewhere (like we wish we did!).

Not as great as photo depicts. We arrived Saturday about 2:30 in the afternoon. From the outside the placed looked very quaint and "old timey", we were excited. Upon entering the place appeared uncleaned an abit more ragged than the internet photo depicts. We were greeted and seated quickly (still looking forward to the experience) gave our drink orders and proceeded to review the menus and make selections. When the waitress returned to get our order, we were then told we could only order from the daily special menu and they were out of several items listed. We chose quickly and ordered. After roughly a 25 minute wait, the waitress reappeared with our order (roast beef plate and a chicken plate, which didnt look to appetizing and tasted even worse! The chicken had clearly been under a heat lamp for hours (dry and rubbery) and the roast beef was cold and rubbery with no flavor, the potatoes were cold and lumpy, but on the bright side the frozen fried okra was hot and freshly fried! During the meal the waitress came over and asked "yall want more of this tea before i pour it out?" UUUUUH no thanks. Overall we found the place to be a very dirt 50-ish style establishment with food that seemed to have actually been prepared in 1950.

In hind site we wonder what the health rating score was???

Can't recommend the place, it sad to see an obvious landmark for this community let quality go by the wayside with the times.

If you're looking to cut down on cholesterol, go somewhere else; this '50s diner only serves the real stuff.. In Short
Think of a house that hasn't been redecorated in decades. The unchanging Elliston Place, which began life as a soda and burger shop and continues today as a meat-and-three and soda shop, maintains a definite '50s decor. Popular with nearby hospital workers and Vandy students and professors, it's a Nashville institution known for serving some of the best shakes in town.

Oh yeah!. This is of course, a Nashville institution. They have the yummiest burgers and the shakes are just out of this world! I love that it is still the old decor, although the restrooms could be updated! The food is just awesome and a really great value! This is a really fun place.
