Editorial Review for Springwater – by Jonathan Flax

In Short
A speakeasy in the 1920s and rumored gambling haunt of Jimmy Hoffa, Springwater has a certain frozen-in-time feel. Inside, a jukebox plays Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd in the main bar, which includes arcade games and a pool table. In the adjoining playroom, indie, hardcore and underground bands are booked three-to-a-bill daily, and crowds of laid-back regulars can range from a handful to nearly 100.

I went to see two great bands at Springwater. (& one that was just there). A new band I found was Slant Sixx and I went to see the Rock A Billys. Both blew me away and the environment at the Springwater was a great addition to the show. It is exactly what it portrays, a dive bar with great live music. The most relaxed and unpretentious place I have been in a long time. Loved it!

Pros: Comfortable, Parking

when i was in high school, springwater's 21+ policy on shows was the bane of my existence. it has some of the most eclectic but fantastic booking among nashville venues -- from well-known indie bands like scout niblett and wolf eyes to local lesser-knowns like a poet named revolver (plus impromptu performances by the likes of dave berman and will oldham). plus the stage is low, the sight-lines aren't awkward, the shows are cheap, and, well, everybody likes a dive bar with a porch and pool tables. drawbacks: poor turnouts for good bands, and parking in that gravel pit of a parking lot.

Pros: booking, cheap shows & beer, laid-back atmosphere

Cons: the parking lot, poor turnout
