Non-Vanderbilt customers are apparently no longer sought after – My coworkers and I have been loyal Sam & Zoe's customers for many years. That, unfortunately, is about to come to an end. We've noticed and commented positively on S&Z's changing decor but, as far as I'm concerned, that's the only positive change. Last week, without consulting a menu (I mean, why look at a menu when the same delicious food has been available for years?) I ordered my favorite sandwich of all time, the TLT deluxe, only to be told it's no longer available. After I recovered from that shock and took a look at the new menu, I found a few other disturbing changes, like the absence of blue corn chips and tomatillo salsa. I asked the guy behind the counter about the change in TLT availability and he said it's the biggest complaint they get. If the previous poster is correct and the goal is to drive away their old clientele, the new owners are going about it exactly the right way. I fail to see the reason people like us need to be driven away--as far as I know, we're relatively socially acceptable and definitely spent lots of money there in the past. But I wish you good luck with your new Vanderbilt clientele, Sam & Zoe's--we'll miss you!

Little did I know – I was happy when I arrived at Sam and Zoe's this morning. When I got my small cup of Joe, I gave the lady at counter a tip even though all she did for me was give me an empty paper cup. I was just glad the air conditioning was working.

I asked if she was excited that Vanderbilt was moving next door and she told me she would be happy to get a new class of customers. That comment sounded strange to me because I have been in retail and I have always appreciated customers with money. I had no idea that I was one of those "undesirables"

The coffee was very good. I sat on the deck and even though part of the kitchen was out on the deck, the view was of another restaurant's parking lot, and there was a bag of greasy trash hanging from a tree near the dumpster, I still enjoyed about 4 oz's of my 12 oz coffee.

I drink coffee slowly and stopped by the refill station to warm up. I went to the cashier, who coincidently was the same person hoping for a better class of customer and told her I wished to pay 25 cents because I didn't get a refill I just got a warm up. She rolled her eyes at me and took 50 cents. She said that was just the way it is. I took a sip of the coffee as I drove around the block and realized that it just didn't taste so good anymore. I took it back to the restaurant and after giving it back to her, I explained that I could get no pleasure from that coffee because of the poor treatment she gave me.

When she smiled and wished me a good day, I realized that I was one of those customers she doesn't want anymore. Maybe I am not tall enough, or athletic enough, or young enough, but I am not the right class for them anymore.

My cost for 4 oz's of good coffee? $2.50

Be Forewarned – This has always been one of my favorite places, but new owners recently took over and the vibe as well as the food, etc. seems to be changing-- and not necessarily for the better.

Rather than doing a slow transition to find out what is popular and why, the owners have immediately started making changes to items on the menu and to things (such as muffins, etc.) that they get from other vendors, without getting to know the existing customers and what they like.

They have turned off the wifi during certain times, and the drive thru is now only for phoned-in orders for much of the day.

There are reasons this cafe has become so popular, but if much of that is to be changed, then why still call it "Sam & Zoe's"? I've heard that the new owners are from Star Bagel, so it would seem to follow to change the name if it's going to be modeled after that business.

They'll probably develop a new customer base, BUT

for those of us long time fans, a big loss...

RIP, Sam & Zoe's.

One of our FAVORITE coffee & lunch spots! – Sam & Zoe's is a friendly little coffee shop with great food, service, and ambience. We also love that you can bring your dog and sit on the porch! :) The coffee, fruit tea, curry chicken salad sandwich, butternut squash soup, and black bean chili are all highly recommended!

This is the best little sandwich shop in Nashville. I love to support local spots because they are so unique. Sam and Zoe's has wonderful coffee, soups, sandwiches, etc. Everything I have ever ordered from there has been so good! I love their turkey sandwich and their tortilla soup is so good! Great place and always look forward to going back!

Tijuana Wrap is the Best Burrito in Town – This place is a close second behind Fido for the best coffee shop in town. This is a fun relaxed place with good outdoor seating. The Tijuana Wrap is the best burrito in town.

uber yummy, super nice staff – I recently moved to Nashville and was lucky to discover Sam and Zoe's. The coffee is amazing and I like that they are supporting local coffee brewers such as Bongo Java and especially, Drew's Brews (his coffee is so amazing). I have had to use the drive thru a few times due to the lack of parking and had to wait BUT in all fairness, Sam and Zoe's is not a fast food restaurant so for those complaining about the wait I would say that reveals more about their impatience rather than the service rendered. Personally, I prefer quality over speed so I don't mind the wait. In addition, I have found the staff to be very pleasant and authentic. I don't want the corporate smile and the "have a nice day" so again I am thankful for the alternative to Starbucks. Keep doing what you're doing because you're doing GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Really enjoyed our visit! – We discovered Sam and Zoe's by accident, since we were visiting a wonderful store in that neighborhood called the Curious Heart Emporium. We were on vacation and therefore I can't comment on repeat experiences, but I was very surprised at the negative comments. In contrast, we found the staff to be very pleasant and efficient. The coffee was very good, too - and the atmosphere was fun. It was late morning, so I'm not sure how that compares to more rushed times of the day - but regardless, we certainly recommend Sam and Zoe's.

Great espresso drinks, friendly, quick service! – I don't know what that last guy is talking about. I have been a customer of S & Z's for almost four years. The staff is actually very educated... a couple people with master's degrees. Granted, it's a small place, and has gotten much busier over the last few years, but they always work well with what they have. I've never waited no more than five minutes for a Sandwich to go. Don't you want your eggs cooked? Everything is fresh and made to order, not pre-made. It sounds like this last guy is just personally attacking the employee's and is a very angry person. Compared to other places in town they serve up a fine cup of coffee with good service. I highly recommend this place!

Only if a bagel is a must – Food is not bad but be prepared to WAIT.

Unfortunately this is the only bagel place close to my work and every time I go there I feel like it's staffed with a bunch of 30 something?s that could not make it in the McDonald industry or, mommy and daddy paid for their college and after that party ended they couldn?t face the real world but took the yellow brick road to Sam & Zoe?s. They are usually bitter, role their eyes at the customers and express the attitude. If you crave a good bagel, go to the drive thru, listen to a long song like In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, lay back and stare at the drive thru tip jar.
