Bankable Food – I go to Sperry's quite often for business meals, the food has contuined to be consistant and very good quality. Great place to entertain for business, and the wine selection is always plentiful. only draw back is the price of the wine by the glasses are alittle high.
Excellent Food - Average Atmosphere – My husband and I tried Sperry's for our third wedding anniversary on a Wednesday. We made reservations - but upon arrival, found that there were only 4 or 5 other tables occupied. We were asked at the door if we had a reservation - which was kind of funny.
Being our anniversary, we were looking for an atmosphere that was quaint and romantic...that is definitely not what Sperry's specializes in. The kitchen is open...and the cooks (probably because it was slow) were tapping out a tune with their tongs on the steel counter. Quite distracting.
Our server was good. He took his time with us - but that was a downfall in the drink department...as my glass was empty quite often.
The food was FABULOUS! Excellent steak - cooked to perfection. Great sides and the salad bar was a refreshing addition for an establishment like this. The Bananas Foster prepared tableside was amazing. It could have easily been shared between four people. The prices were moderate - but it was a good value for the quality.
Overall, Sperry's is a good choice if you are looking for premium steak without the predictability of a chain restaurant.
Very Average – My wife and I had heard raving reviews about this restaurant and decided to try it. The food was average and over price the service needs improvment. Once served our steak the server neverd checked to see if our steak was cooked correctly or checked on us at all. We have ate at many 5 star restuarants and were very disappointed. We did not find this as romantic experenice as we had hoped for. The tables were too small and placed too close to one another. Flemings gets the nod in every catagory and the service is impeccable.
A SATISFIED APPETITE. – WHAT A TOP NOTCH ESTABLISHMENT. Priced atliitle high, but you can justify the cost for the freshness and quality of the food. I really wish there was a way to make dining room not so crowded, but like me, I guess folks just can 't stay away. I always order the trout almondine which is perfectly wonderful. Servers do great job and are "friendly" not stuffy. Keep it up....BY THE WAY, THE BANANAS FOSTER IS UNBELIEVABLE!
Great Place! – This is the best steakhouse we've been to since moving to the area last year. I've been to almost every fine dining establishment in Nashville, and I am an expert on steaks. I ordered the bone-in filet and made a special request to have is stuffed with bleu cheese. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had. My boyfriend enjoyed his swordfish steak as well. I also enjoyed the salad bar. The lights were dim, which I appreciated. We sat in the bar area, and our waiter was great. He was informative and polite. I would definitely bring out of town guests to this restaurant.
Our first visit won't be our last! I need more space to write.. – My family had a wonderful experience and a fine meal. We were a party of six with reservations on a Sunday evening and were seated promptly. The entire staff was attentive. Our waitress was charming, and demonstrated excellent knowledge of the menu. All of her suggestions were spot on with our tastes. We started with a sample platter of appetizers at her suggestion. There was something for everyone without filling up prematurely, including shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, and Mushrooms Sperry. I don't eat mushrooms, but everyone else enjoyed them. The shrimp cocktail was chilled and lovely. Best crab cakes I've ever had.
Next, we visited the salad bar. It's not overwhelming in size, but the selections were fresh and chilled. Because I couldn't make up my mind, I sampled a few of the dressings on the side. The delicate green goddess and savory roasted garlic were my favorites. I was also delighted to find pickled okra. It's one of those things that I sometimes crave but don't often see on a salad bar.
When our entres came, we sampled from each other's plates. I had the melt-in-your-mouth Halibut Oscar, which is served over tender young asparagus and topped with Hollandaise. Yum! Can't recommend that one highly enough. My daughter had Rainbow Trout Almondine. My son had Swordfish Steak. I sampled both and have to say they were both distinctive and awesome. I'll have a difficult choice next time...now that I know.;) There were a couple of off-menu specials, including a surf and turf with a small lobster tail, which Dad ate with the bleu cheese stuffed filet. One of our party had the salmon, and another had a special fish. All I heard were raves all around.
At the suggestion of our waitress, my daughter and I shared the toffee pudding for dessert. Wow! I hear the peppermint stick ice cream with chocolate sauce is something special, too. Prices were on par with The Bound'ry, Antonio's, and most fine dining in the area that I've tried.
Another Location – I have eaten at your lovely establishment and was wondering if there was ever a thought of branching out? I own a love commercial property built in the 1900's that has 4 fireplaces and lots of character and thought I'd ask you would be interested in the Mt Juliet Area. We desperately need a specialty restaurant and that is what I feel you offer. Please let me know. I called your restaurant and ask this question and they suggested I send you this email. I am not trying to commercialize this area. We truly need your type of restaurant in our location. I appreciate your time. Brenda White
We're not Belle Meade...but who cares?!? – We reside across the border and try to patronize Sperry's for our anniversary each April. My husband and I on short notice were able to dine here last evening, and we were not dressed the part. Jeans was our attire and I did not feel we were second class citizens among all the suites. Sperry?s was extremely busy and we had a bit of a wait to place our order. Our only disappointment was the Bananas Foster could not be prepared at our table for we were seated in a small space. I even offered to move to the bar! Sadly, it was packed as well.
While in the area and if time permits, take a drive around the magnificent homes and property in Belle Meade. This in my opinion is class at it?s best.
Great traditional steakhouse – The change to non-smoking has probably saved this fine restaurant from going out of business. Congratulations to someone for looking ahead and catering to a smarter clientele! Great food, great tradition!
Not a chain, unique atmosphere, friendly service since 1974 – Sperry's Restaurant has been in business in Belle Meade since 1974. It Is an independent family owned and operated business with a unique English Tudor atmosphere that can't be found anywhere else. Sperry's warm and comfortable atmosphere has three stone fireplaces and loads of beautiful stained glass plus a myriad of unique decorations collected over the years. The second location in Cool Springs is a duplicate of the original with the exception of multiple private dining rooms. The large copper salad bar is fresh and inviting, and not overstocked with too many items.
The menu features a wide variety of seafood including favorites like the Halibut Oscar and Seared Ahi Tuna. Steak selections include slow-roasted Prime Rib and the best-selling Prince Williams Blue-cheese Stuffed Filet, so named because of the famous guests visit to Sperry's in August of 2005. The beef is top choice and cooked traditionally on an open grill and the portions are just the right size. One can actually order a steak with a side and eat the whole thing, so you don't feel like you are paying for food for four! The wine list is not too big and fairly priced with multiple selections by the glass.
Other selections include Rack-of-Lamb Dijon, Alaskan King Crab Legs, and Deep Fried Lobster. For an appetizer, choose either Mushrooms Sperry, Escargot or the Smoked Salmon Dip. For dessert, you can make it a night with the Brandy Alexander Pie or Bananas Foster Flamed tableside. Don't forget to try a Cafe' Sperry's!!
Sperry's is the place to go if you don't want to go to another Steakhouse chain in Nashville. You won't be disappointed.
