Shrimpy Portions and Rude Waiters – This place is on my list of "I'll never eat there again." The tater tots were some kind of experimental fried mashed potatoes that resembled hush puppies with mushy innards. My girlfriend had a seafood "platter which consisted of three malnourished shrimp, five scraggly calamari, and fries. They had to distribute the food evenly on the oversized plate to make it look full. Thinking this a mistake I told our (rude and slow) waiter that we were missing some shrimp. He said, That is correct...half and half." Uhm...correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't halves equal? He added that for $6.95 we could add six shrimp. After paying, the waiter asked if my friend needed change. She said yes and our waiter said he had dropped some and it rolled down the street. If your looking for a place to make you feel like you've been mugged and verbally abused...enjoy.
no longer a regular – my boyfriend and i used to visit southstreet at least twice a week because of the great food and even better atmosphere. southstreet was like our "CHEERS" for about a year. then something happened behind the scenes with the cooks and it all went downhill from there. you can only get by on atmosphere for so long, but if you continuously serve below average food even the regulars are going to disappear. i used to look forward to the daily specials because they were fresh and different all the time. but no more, i hate to be this harsh, but lately the food just sucks. come on guys, get back in the groove and focus on the food. i would love to make southstreet my spot again.
A fun place with great food and atmosphere – No two ways about it, South Street is a fun place to be and the food is mighty good. Sit upstairs in the tree house and whittle away time with friends sharing oysters, ckicken legs, and drinks.
The service can be hit or miss depending on who's working but more often than not, it's good, sometimes excellent. The waitresses are attentive, fun, and sometimes even flirty. The bartenders are quick, make good drinks, and always treat you familiarly.
The prices are probably a bit above average, but the food is ridiculously good, so not what I'd call overpriced. Fresh, tasty, and well prepared.
way to overpriced/tiny portions – when i first entered this place, i loved the ambience, however the menu prices are completely ridiculous for the type of atmosphere and the food. my burger was just shy of $10 and i couldve gotten a better one at burger king. the portions are puny also. our server was okay, didnt go out of his way to get us a second order of bread, we waited until we got our food to get the second order of bread. there were no drink specials, and because of the prices (literally they were as much as a 4 star restaurant) i dont think i will be returning,
Always a winner – One of the best bets for your money in Nashville. Casual fun atmosphere. Come dressed up or down. This is dive bar meets music row. The food is always fresh and the prices are right. We love to go here Sunday afternoons for that perfect end of weekend hang. Best osyters and barbeque in Nashville
Bad service – I went to this resturant on Sunday August 8, 2005. I sat at the bar and the bartender was both rude and gave terrible service. When I talked to the management the next day about my visit, they did not give me the impression that they cared. It was as the manager put it "I think just a missunderstanding of communication". I can spend my "dinning out dollars" elsewhere. I do not reccomend this resturant to anyone.
Definitely Going Back – I was a little scared when I looked down at the menu, but after figuring it out, I have decided this is one of the best places to eat in Nashville. The price was great. My friend and I both had a half rack of ribs plus sides, bread, drinks, and slaw for under $25. I think they might have had the best ribs I've ever had. The service was very friendly and helpful, you can tell they like their job. They treated me like one of their many regulars, even though this was my first time.
DEFINITELY GO HERE – I found this restaurant on this website before I went on my roadtrip and made a point of finding it. It was everything I'd hoped for and more. Cheap as heck, AWESOME po'boys, strong drink, AND it was in a neighborhood that was playing street music (Big Head Todd or something like that, it was great). I would HIGHLY recommend it. There is also a great used music store and a cute coffee shop nearby. GO!
It was worth the hunt – This is was a little hard for us to find since we are not from Nashville and 21st street starts and stops, but it was worth the hunt. My sister had the steak, and said it was good. My crab legs were great, and had plenty to eat. I will visit here again on my next visit to Nashville!
hard to beat... – having been a local nash'villian for all of 4 months now, everytime my wife and i go out to eat, it seems as though we choose south street instead of trying "something new". it's good food, inexpensive, bustling with people and fun to eat at - espeically in warmer weather when they "roll up" the front of the place and open it to the street. dinner for 2 with a few beers never exceeds $50 or $60. and you leave stuffed. i wish they had more nonsmoking seats though....
