Editorial Review for Loveless Cafe – by Jonathan Flax
In Short
Located at the Northern terminus of the Natchez Trace Parkway, this legendary haunt is a blend of successful tourist hot spot and local favorite. The decor is Southern rustic, with chunky wooden tables, paintings depicting country music stars, eight-by-10 photos of celebrities and blue-checked tablecloths. Every table gets a plate of the famous biscuits served with sorghum and peach preserves. All-day breakfast highlights include the smoky-sweet country ham with special "red-eye" gravy and made-to-order eggs.

If you're in the mood for some down-home cooking and a friendly atmosphere, you MUST try the Loveless Cafe. I'm telling you, the fried catfish, okra, cheddar cheese grits, and BISCUITS are sooooooooo good! It reminded me of my great grandmother's cooking, and was every bit as good! It is also clean and country-feeling without being kitschy. The little shops around the cafe and the Natchez Trace also add a reason to make a day of it. Try renting a bike from the little bike rental place behind the cafe, riding down Natchez Trace, and then stopping back in at Loveless when you return. As you wait for your table, stop into one of the cute little shops (such as Curious Heart Emporium) and buy some stone ground grits or Tennessee T-Cakes from the little grocer adjacent to the cafe. And after you eat, don't forget to ask for some more biscuits and homemade jam to go! Mmmmm...
Pros: The FOOD! And the ambience/surrounding area.
Cons: N/A

The biscuits and preserves were delicious, but the rest of the dinner was average. My husband and I both had the the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and mac and cheese. It was good food, but I wouldn't drive all the way out there again when i can get the type of food closer to home and cheaper. The service was great though, and I really enjoyed the fresh biscuits.
