Mediocre Service & Required Tip – The food was great but the service was simply mediocre. For $247 for 2 people you would expect much more. Plus the 20.9% required gratuity is just irritating. If restaurants had a better staff they wouldn't need to make the tip required. Besides, a required gratuity isn't a gratuity- it's a fee.

My advice, stay away

Disappointing Night Out! – My husband and I visited to celebrate our first wedding anniversary as this is the restaurant where we dined the night we got engaged. We left very disappointed. My husband requested a quiet table. The hostess stuck us in an upstairs room which was little more than a covered patio with 2 tables. The room smelled musty. It was no sooner that we sat down that another couple was seated next to us. So much for privacy. The other table in the room was so close to ours that we were unable to talk to each other without the other couple overhearing. Our server, Ben, was excellent, but he was the highlight of our evening. The building needs updating. The bathrooms are in disrepair, and the upstairs smells like smoke from the bar or mildew (depending on where you are seated). The carpets and other upholstery are in need of replacement. My brother called earlier in the day and bought a bottle of wine as a surprise for my husband and me. The man who answered the phone took his credit card information and allegedly noted the wine next to our reservation. We never received it. I doubt we'll return to Baker Peters, which is a shame because we like to support local business, and the building has such a great history. But when we're willing to spend over $50 a person for a meal, we're looking for something truly special. Baker Peters missed the mark.

Overpriced and not worth it – There were multiple problems throughout our meal, and I will not go back! Listed below are the many problems that we experienced during our meal.

The menu listed many items that apparently were not available. Because the menu was listed on simple paper within a plastic folder, it would have taken 10 minutes to exchange it. However, we were able to become excited about multiple items before being told that they were not available.

When I received my salad, I realized that they had forgotten all of the ingredients listed on the menu aside from the greens and dressing. When I mentioned to the server, he quickly fixed the problem.

After enjoying our tasty entrees, we received the bill, which listed the "surf and turf" special as $52. Because the average entree price on the menu was $30, we expected a special to be at most $40. This was quite a surprise, and we felt that the entree was certainly not worth the price tag.

After receiving the bill for the meal, we decided to head to the bar area to enjoy some drinks. We ordered doubles during that time. Upon receiving our bar tab, we found that we were charged an exorbitant amount for our drinks. For seven drinks, we were charged $85.

After mentioning our concerns to the manager, we were simply dismissed with an excuse that was obviously contrived.

We will not return to this establishment in the future.

One of the three best – But then again they own all three, the italian market, the tennessee grill and baker peters jazz club. I have ate at all and loved each one even before I found out they were all owned by the same person.

My favorite – This is by far the best restaurant in Knoxville. I can't say enough great things about it. The steaks are excellent, but so is everything on the menu. Try the crab-artichoke dip, you won't be sorry. For dessert I would recommend the creme brulee. The atmosphere is great; it's romantic and intimate. I liked the fact that they give you a black napkin if you have black pants on. The martini selection is extensive, as is the wine list.
