Severely understaff – We have been going to Edo for a long time and its food and service had been decent. Recently, they had lost their Vietnamese waitress and business was down, therefore, they only kept two waitresses on the weekend nights. BIG mistake! Each waitress had to serve 8-9 tables, beside serving they also had to clean up tables. In short, there were many dirty tables around while customers were waiting. Recently, with the article about them published on Commercial Appeal and their coming out with $5 coupons, they were still full at 8:30 p.m. on Friday nights. Customers left because nobody would take notice them. We left one Friday night ourselves and went to the local Mexican Restaurant who was much faster and cheaper. It surely seems the boss of Edo no longer cares about his business becayse he wanted to sell it and retire but there was no taker. The chefs wanted to take over the restaurant FREE and the boss is jsut buying time. As a result, there are only 3 people working in the kitchen, orders of Sushi all arrive late and some entree orders were incorrect Two waitresses running around like crazy and if you can get any services you would be lucky. I heard the Boss himself was washing dishes in the kitchen himself. If they do not hire any extra helps soon (at lease one extra waitress, one busboy/dish washer and one extra chef), I do not believe they would make it and will start losing customers again. If you must go there, be warned because it may be a long wait. Your better alternative will be Sakura restaurant in Germantown. They have six people making Sushi alone and they are fast. The prices and quality of their entrees are also better than that of Edo. Their Sushi are higher but bigger. Osake in Cordova will be a second choice.
The BEST sushi. Perfectly splendid. Sometimes there is a 20 minute wait but its well worth the wait. When I go to Memphis I have to eat at Edos! 2 people? try the Loveboat - too muchfood. Sacari – I love Edo's. Authenically grilled over a Habachi..if you order California Rolls/Spicy Shrimp Rolls and a Loveboat for two people - you will be absolutely stuffed to the brim for under 35. I love this restaurant...its one of Memphis' Best kept secrets. The sacari sauce - which they put on shrimp is yum..its melts in your mouth. I have eaten lots of sushi and theirs is the BEST. Prepare to wait 20 minutes on weekends because the patrons fill up the cozy restaurant. I have eaten there since 1989 - and will not go to another Japanese Rest. to be disappointed. They have Japanese Beer which is pretty tasty with Sushi. Their chicken is charcoal broiled...their rice doesn't stick together. Their sauces are secret recipes - ignore the bad review that somebody wrote...this place is my favorite. NUFF SAID
If you want good rolls go to Mortimer's..you can't beat their rolls or seafood - its on Perkins at the Expressway...its cozy also with a fireplace.
very friendly service and excellent food – I've been going to Edo for 3 years now and it is one of the restaurants I regularly attend when I am in Memphis. The service is always friendly and the food has always been fresh, The sushi at Edo has always been my favorite in the city. I have never left with an empty stomach or a complaint.
Nasty!!!! – Worst sushi I have ever ate. The sushi rolls had so much mayo in them that some was left over on the tray. The terriyaki chicken was undercooked.
Edo is authentic japanese food – I love eating at Edo's over any other japanese restaurant in the city. Why? Because I'm not paying for the decor, I'm paying for the food! I want REAL japanese food and I get it at Edo's. The food is excellent and the service is friendly!
