Great food – The barbecue sandwiches are terrific, and so is the rest of the food. I never knew devilled eggs could be so good. The bad part is I only live 2 minutes away, so it's tough to stay out of there. Parking is a problem, though.

User review by catmom613 – My family lives IN Germantown, loves barbeque & the "down home" flavor we find here.

We LUV the pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw & the desserts are out-of-this-world!!!

My personal favorite is the caramel cake---with the coconut cream pie & banana pudding running a very close 2nd! I am always disappointed with the "baked beans" as they taste like warmed-up, canned pork 'n beans---needs a BIG improvement here! The ambiance is warm, cozy & old-timey! We are thrilled that we have a restaurant that is a MUST for out-of-towners!!!

Best BBQ in Memphis – As a former Memphian, I am confidant in saying that the Commissary has the best BBQ in town. The pulled pork has such a wonderful taste that you almost don't need the sauce. If you try to go eat at 7 pm on a Friday night, like most good BBQ places in Memphis, you will be waiting in line. However, food delivery is quick.

I have a few tips for first timers. First, go early so you aren't stuck waiting in line. Second, the church across the street allows you to park in their parking lot. Finally, the best deal is to get the 6 pack to go. For $17, you get 1 lb of pulled pork, 6 buns, mild and hot sauce, a quart of beans and a pint of cole slaw. If you don't like those options, they will substitute just about sides for you at no charge.

Gtwn BBQ – I am from Germantown and after eating BBQ from places like Corky's for years I found the best in my own backyard. The potato salad is the best anywhere and the banna pudding will make you "slap yo mamma"

Best BBQ in Memphis – I'm living in Memphis for the summer, and went on a mission to find the best barbecue place in town. I've eaten a LOT of BBQ while I've been here, and I can truly say this place has THE best ribs in Memphis. Even my pork-hating boyfriend sucked the bones dry!

Well Worth the Drive – Cute little part of town where there appears to be lots of money -- and there is definately some X-cellent BBQ! Devilled Eggs go nicely with the incredible pulled pork sandwiches. Classic banana pudding with nilla vanilla wafers is made with real bananas! Nice folks run this place!

T-Dine – This is the world's greatest coconut cream pie!!! I lve in Florida, but look forward to projects in the Memhis are - just for the Commissary! The BBQ is great, but have the pie first to be sure you have room for it all!

Loyal locals pack this cozy Old Germantown favorite for heaping servings of hickory-smoked barbecue. – The Scene
Tucked away behind the tracks, this glorified shed bustles with business lunchers treating out-of-town clients and locals greeting servers by name. Hanging lanterns offset the wooden plank walls covered with snapshots of Tennessee's finest. The help is full of "sweethearts," but short on time, so be prepared for prompt service and little else after the food arrives.

The Food
Standards that would do any Memphian proud (think pulled pork and delightfully crispy dry ribs) are smoked through the night and served with warm baked beans, light crispy slaw and a deviled egg. The expansive menu is littered with standouts including homemade Brunswick stew, tender doughy tamales and plump barbecue shrimp. But the real star here is the sauce--served mild or hot. Go with the latter for a tongue-tickling kick, and no matter what you order, pour much and pour often. For dessert, banana pudding is served like Grandma used to make it--packed with banana chunks and whole Nilla Wafers.

BEST BBQ & Coconut Pies – I've tried almost all the BBQ Rib places in Memphis and I must say the Germantown Commissary is my favorite. If you like Coconuts, you'll love their pie too!
