Horrible customer relations – I won't eat at Basil Leaf again because of a weird and very disappointing experience with the management. After finishing lunch, I left my camera sitting on the table. Some minutes later, I realized this and returned to find my camera missing. Of course, "gone missing" is a frequent fate of cameras and is hardly unusual, but there were very few customers in the restaurant at that time. When I returned later to ask about the camera, the hostess/manager was entirely disinterested in my questions from the beginning of our conversation, and clearly couldn't care less. She checked behind the counter where lost and found items were kept, and when the camera wasn't there, said I must have left it somewhere else. I replied that I was sure I had left it there, and she countered defensively by saying that nothing like this had ever happened in her 11 years there, that my "story sounded funny" - accused me of lying about losing the camera! - and then threatened to call the police unless I left immediately. No voices were raised during our conversation, it seemed clear that she just didn't want to deal with the situation. I was dumbfounded because at no time did she express any kind of sympathy or caring about the customer's concerns (for example, saying " I'm sorry your camera went missing at our restaurant" or "I will try to look into this more tonight and will let you know what I find out"). I grew up working in my family's retail business, and I know customers can be a pain in the rear sometimes, but at the very least, they should be treated courteously. Cameras come and go, and realistically I was not expecting that they would be able to produce or replace it, but in my many years of being a customer I have never been treated with such indifference and hostility by business management.
Best Place In Town – I have gone here for several meals in the past year. This place continues to get better and is 20 times better than Danville Grille and other high rated restaurants. It has a nice italian/elegant feel and the place is decorated well. The people who work there are all very nice. If they ever mess up your order or you are unhappy with a meal, they will gladly give you a free meal or dessert. Even at night when the place is busy, I am sitted in 2-5 minutes at the most. They are know when you need water(wonderful fruit flavored) and bread. The food takes about 15-20 minutes which I have found is no time at all The only thing that I find displeasing are the pictures of Mel Gibson at every table. For the best pasta, salmon, and salad in town go to Basil
liked it – I had lunch there yesterday and it was pretty nice. Service wasn't super fast but we got plenty of attention. The food was quite good. I had a 1/2 sandwich and soup and couldn't finish the soup. I'll have to try dinner sometime.
Charming Italian cafe disappoints – Had lunch here on weekday; probably would not go back there again. The service was poor (couldn't find host to seat us, server didn't come for over 15 minutes, service was slow, water glasses rarely refilled). Not all the ingredients of each dish are listed on the menu and when we asked about what was in certain dishes we later found out that he had left out some of the ingredients, so if you have any food allergies or aversions, ask about that particular food because they may not tell you about it. The pasta dish that I ordered came "highly recommended" but not as described by the server- very disappointing. It was bland and had no flavor whatsoever, and it cost like $14. The waiter never came by to see if our food was okay, which it wasn't. Took forever to find waiter to get check.
Love their brunch – I always enjoy going there. Try them for brunch on Sundays. My out of town friends love this place. We HAVE TO go here every time they are visiting. Very friendly and professional staff.
It was allright – Wife and I went to Basil Leaf for a early Sunday Dinner. Were seated promptly in an outdoor table of our choosing.
Even though the menu had an insert for the "special", no special was available due to a "lack of mangos". I would submit that a supermarket would carry a sufficient quantity of mangos to hold them until Monday.
A tad on the pricey side, but hey, it's Danville. My tortelini was good, but overpriced for tortellini that was borderline Digiornio. Sauce was tasty, but found the prosciutto to be "chunky". Wife's alternate, shrimp scampi, had monster shrimps, but the pasta sauce was a tad too acidic...too much lemon, just needed less of a edge.
2 ppl, bottle of wine, 2 soups, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert was $80. Although I won't be back soon, I would consider it in the future.
