fantastic mexican cuisine – Blue Agave Club in Fremont is the forth jewel in a Garcia family crown. Their other establishments are Blue Agave in Pleasanton and both Fiesta del Mar and Fiesta del Mar Too in Mountain View. The restaurant is located in a converted house on a side street. While that reduces their walk-in traffic, the result is very attractive and comfortable atmosphere different than I anticipated. There are several small rooms that can feel intimate but not stuffy and a spectacular back garden for outdoor dining. Blue Agave has a menu that is a perfect match for the ambience. Of course, all of the Fiesta del Mar favorites (Camerones Alex, Enjococado, ...) are available, but there are new additions that my group made sure to try. I ordered the r*ck of lamb wonderful. A friend tried the filet, rare, and it was spectacular. I was really surprised by the quality and flavor of the beef. Another in our party fired up the grilled salmon and it was cooked perfectly. However, as special as these entrees were, the star was the Camerones Xochitl, their signature dish. Cuitlaccoche (or Huitlaccoche) is a disease that infects corn and produces wonderful and exotic flavors. Often called Mexcican Truffles, all you really want to know about the sauce is that it is delicious. For completeness, we started our meal with tasty appetizers and finished with one of every desert: flan, flourless chocolate cake and bananas foster. And, of course, all of our food was accompanied by phenomenal margaritas the best of all the Garcia-family restaurants. The service was great, and we felt like we were dining at the home of friends. Blue Agave is still fun and casual (your meal starts with chips and yummy salsa after all) but it is very different than Chevys or the neighborhood taqueria. The prices reflect that difference too, but with a typical dinner cost of $30-40 a person with drinks, Im convinced that it is worth it.
You must experience – This is no longer Pearl's. It is now Blue Agave "at Pearl's." Its exotic Mexican food. The service was incredible. The food was wonderful. Environment was beautiful. We had a wonderful time. It was some of the most amazing salsa we have ever had.
City Person – I was taken there by 2 friends for my birthday, They had both eaten at Pearl's before and were pleased with it. We all thought our meals were definitely below par - prices were way over the top for the quality of the food and the environment. Service was mediocre and kind of weird. At the end of the meal the waiter said if he had known it was my birthday he would have given me a glass of champagne. Well I had ordered a glass, which was rather flat, so he probably should have just taken it off the bill. All 3 of us said never again - there are too many trully terrific restaurants in the Bay Area.
The waiters – Pearls has gems working there which continues to inspire those of us who are frequent Pearls diners. George is the funniest and warmest waiter in the world...the food is great...the waiters are fantastic...the price is fine......
Pearl's – Pearls has gone a bit down hill over the years. The service, food, atmosphere have suffered. While the price is still a bit hard to swallow for fremont.
Pearl's Cafe – The food at this restaurant is amazing! A great place for a special occassion, a business lunch or a gathering with friends. The dinner I had easily compares with any of the fine restaurants in San Francisco. This is by far the best place to eat in Fremont and a top choice in the Bay Area.
memorable – I ate lunch here with people from work. The food
is excellent and service was great. It does get
crowded because it's a good place to eat. If it wasn't crowded I'd start to worry about the place!
Expensive, but nice – The restaurant is quite busy. It's really amazing how much room has been made - it's quite creative, but VERY expensive for the quality. The food was excellent, the service was average. If it costs this much, the City is more the setting - and you're spending the same amount anyhow.
