Loved it! – The skewers of meat and veggies were delicious! I ordered the Haru dinner and it was almost too much food for me but it was so good I ate it all. The mixed rice was excellent, with tasty mushrooms. The staff was friendly and attentive, no complaints about that. Love this place!
smokey, small portians, rude chef – First, My wife is From Japan, and is an excellent cook, we eat Japanese food 90% of the time and eat in Japanese resturants all over Los angeles often, we also travel to several cities in Japan several times per year, and often eat in resturants there as well.
I had seen this place for a while, and so one evening we decided to try it, there was only a couple of customers in the place when we arrived , and we sat at the end of the "counter".
The "chef/owner", a guy with a pony tail, did not acknowledge us in any way, not even with a glance as we sat, he instead continued a conversation with a friend at the end of the counter, we were the only other ones.
White Smoke was pouring off of the grill, it stunk like charcoal lighter in the resturant..I have never experianced this with other Yakitori resturants, it seemed he did not know how to control the intensity of the flame , through out the meal even though the resturant was almost empty, the chef never acknowledged us at the counter..we had to order from a waitress, right in front of him, with in his voice range ,and then she relayed it to him..never once looking our way.
Our portions were very small, cold, and tasted like charcoal..you could not taste the meat..
One of the items on the menu was stuffed mushrooms, so we ordered these, they consisted of regular small white American Vons mushrooms stuffed with cold mashed potatoes!!..I highly doubt you would EVER be served somthing like this in Japan, My wife and I both couldnt help from quietly laughing..it was bad and ridiculous..we had a couple of beers and left..we said good bye to the chef /owner when we left, and he didnt look or say a word. You would never encounter treatment or food like this in Japan.. even in this area it was the worst overall "Japanese" food experiance I have encountered.
The "chef"/ cook has an attitude, like a great sushi chef, in my opinion he is not even a decent picnic BBQ cook .
