Good Breakfast, Too Popular – It can't be denied that Maxwell Cafe has good nosh, but they always seem to be packed. The waitstaff tries their best, but they always seem a little haggard from trying to effectively serve the masses.
A hidden gem – I stopped in at the Maxwell Cafe for breakfast this morning, and have found my new favorite breakfast spot. The decor brings to mind a roadside cafe back home, as opposed to the bottled generic cafe of Los Angeles. Local memorablia litters the walls, free coffe while you wait in line.
We waited about 15 mintues to be seated (it's a busy place at 11 on Sunday morning) and got great service imediatly. Pancakes we killer (as simple as they are, you'de be surprised how many places find a way to mess them up) the turkey sausage was AMAZING, and they even managed to get my order for eggs - over medium done exactly right.
I highly recomend this place, especially if you are local to the Venice/Culver City area, parking is simple and free on side streets and cost is around $8 per plate
Great breakfast, great service. – I visited Maxwell Cafe due to its proximity to my new place. The food and the service is excellent. I love that they offer vegetarian sausage and tofu on the breakfast menu! The only negative thing is that is priced a little on the high side.
Great vibe, tasty food – If you enjoy a non-LA hoity-toity amosphere, this is it. Its worth the wait in line outside. Its moves pretty quick anyways. The food is delicious and the waitstaff are fun. Go early if you're impatient. Park on the street - I've never had a problem in my 28 years as a native to the area.
worst service ever – I thought this place would be good, but the service was the worst ever. We had to wait forever for a table even though there were open tables. when we did finally get seated we had to wait forever for someone to take our order. On top of all the wait, they randomly forgot most of our order. I thought it was just a busy day, but we tried again and the service was just as bad. Also the manager was really nasty. Worst service ever.
Who's the customer here? – I went to Maxwell's on a weekday morning, after hearing so much about the food here. I waited for a long time (expected), but when I finally got seated, I was ignored for about 10 minutes. I finally flagged someone down, and they cattily told me to wait for MY server. Finally put in my order and the food was pretty good. However, my server never came back. I asked someone else for some tabasco, and they very grudgingly brought it 5 minutes later. Talk about uppity employees. I'm definitely NOT going back.
There's a reason why there's a line to get in – i went with a group of 8, Keep in mind that this place is cafe size...ie SMALL Once inside, we were seated promptly and the servers were friendly and attentive. In fact, those in my party who were upset that they had to wait extra time, changed their attitude once the food arrived. I had the strawberry french toast with home fries and chicken cilantro sausage. The french toast wasnt too thick so I could finish it for once. Everything was delicious and satisfying. Come early if you want a chance at great seating, but if there's a wait they'll bring you coffee outside on request. No lot parking, so if there are two of you, have one person put the name on the list and the other park the car. Also, if you decide to bring a group, call first and make sure your entire party is present.
User review by ksmyers311 – It takes a little while to sit, but once you do, you get promp service and prompt food.
It is overall a very friendly atmospheare. The waitress are friendly and you get to know the locals, since so many of them go there for there morning coffee before work.
Also, all of the food is made fresh, nothing is frozen.
Incredible Breakfast – It might be a little hard to get seated at times, but that's only because the place is popular enough to be packed at all times. The food is definitely well worth the wait. I just recently started going to Maxwell's for breakfast on Sundays here and there. I was hooked the first time I ate there and my friends love it too. Highly Recommended!
