There's better Thai in Dallas – Unimpressive! Not sure where all the "best in Dallas" comes from. The dishes are sloppy concoctions of disparate flavors with none of the subtleness that's expected in Thai. Greasy is the flavor I've experienced most often and the huge chunks of onion and bell peppers do nothing for integration. Drunken noodles that taste oily is unexcusable. It's one of the generic asian places that surfs on inexperience of it's patrons. Pass. Try Mint or Thai Soon

HORRIBLE SERVICE – First off, I have to say that it is the best Thai food restaurant in the entire DFW metroplex, but it also has the most horrible service in the entire DFW metroplex. The illiterate hostess, the smug waiters, and the clueless manager don't do anything but ruin the entire dining experience for you. I would think twice before coming to this restaurant, because unless you have the patience for it, be prepared to be waiting while people who come in after you are already having dessert while you are stuck in the crowd doorway.

Best in town – I agree this is the best in town. There are a lot of good options, but this place is always consistant. And that's despite the fact that it's always packed. We like to go here for lunch, but the parking lot is insane. And when i'm anticipating the food it's just worse! We've tried most of the staples on the menu and liked them all.

Good Pad Thai – I've been to many Thai places and this is one of the few that have been really good. The Pad Thai is really good and the duck curry soup has a good portion and tastes good. I recommend for you to stop by.

Good location in Old Town, busy as hell though – I live in the neighborhood, so I can't be completely unbiased, but this is one of the greatest Thai restaurants in Dallas. The owner/manager is always wandering around in a 3 piece suit, making sure all the diners are happy and being served well. The waittresses are hot and look and act very professional. Go ahead and speak some Thai to them when you order, they're all 100% genuine, just like the food.

Someone mentioned in another review that the vegetables were too raw. Well, take a trip to Bangkok, or Pi Pi Island, or Koh Chang, or anywhere else in Thailand. That's how they cook. Royal Thai is just a little American unlike many Thai restaurants in Dallas. Personally I prefer the fresh burst of flavor you get from quickly-heated green beans in a Panang dish.

If you go, you must try the soups (tom yum goong or tom kha gai), the fish patty appetizer, and go ahead and get the fried curry catfish. It is an amazing thing to witness. The presentation is fantastic, and you get the entire fish, standing up vertically, with precisely cut and fried pieces of the meat arranged on the plate. You get just enough curry sauce to make you beg for more, it's sinfully delicious and blends exceptionally with the fish.

One last thing, and likely the most important: when you visit, be sure to come early. As the clock winds towards 8 or 9pm, you'll be lucky to get a seat, and 30 to 45 minute wait times are not unusual. However, once you are seated, you will be waited on immediately and your food will always arrive hot. Some of the best service from any restaurant I've ever visited.

oh Royal Thai...me love you long time! – I eat at Royal Thai atleast 4 times monthly. Its not only the excellent food they serve that keeps me coming back its also the hottie waitresses that swarm the dining room. I could not believe it the first time I walked in, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I only wish there was a happy ending rather than desert. Go check it out and try the Panang too. Gents, dont forget to untuck your shirts before entering or else your date/wife will be upset when you spring wood while checking out your server.

The food is BAD. I do not undersand these other reviewers... – The food here is lacking. The fried spring rolls are doughy and tough to eat. The noodle dishes are poorly spiced- there is just not much flavor in the cooking and almost no spicy heat. The vegetables are poorly prepared - too raw tasting and haphazardly cut into various shapes and sizes. One dish that was supposed to have "just enough sauce to cover the noodles" was actually a soup of the sauce that almost completely covered the entire dish. Yuck. However, Royal Thai does have a pleasant atmosphere. The appearance of the restaurant is very nice; wood everywhere, good accent lighting, fancy and unobtrusive bar, etc. Also, the service was acceptable and the food was delivered promptly.

I do not understand the buzz about this restaurant and why people are clamoring about it. I, for one, will never eat there again.

Great value for Thai food! – Realy resonable prices and great food. Reasonable wine list as well, great for big groups or birthday celebrations.

Pad Thai? Yes please.... – I'm from Atlanta and have recently moved to the Dallas area. I was bereft, having to leave my favorite Thai restaurant (Thai Spice in the Forum in Norcross, GA for you ATL'ers). Before I visited Royal Thai here in Dallas, I never thought I would ever find Pad Thai that compares in freshness and flavor to that at Thai Spice in Atlanta. Luckily, I was wrong.

I know, I know, Padi Thai isn't really a Thai dish at all, but nonetheless, great Thai restaurants usually make the best Pad Thai. Royal Thai is no exception. This restaurant offers the best Pad Thai in Dallas, hands down. Also delicious is the flavorful Satay appetizer, fragrant Jasime rice, and anything off the specialty list on the back page of the menu.

Our server was very friendly, attentive and helpful, even though English is a bit of a challenge for her.

The interior of the restaurant is a delightful surprise, considering that it is stuck in the back of a strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside. We were surprised to find beautifully carved red wood inlays, subdued lighting, a calm, peaceful atmosphere and a general upscale styling. This stylish and affordable restaurant would be an ideal place to take someone on a date, or to enjoy with your other Thai loving friends.

ENJOY!
