Don't let the door knock you down when you leave – For about ten years, I've shopped occasionally at the Los Angeles Wine Company(LAWC). I support local businesses out of convenience and out of a sense of loyalty.

LAWC has a good selection of hard to find California vineyards and the great Bordeaux and Burgundies. My niche is reds - $10-$30. I've found some memorable wines at LAWC but, I've never felt loyal. In my sphere (Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, there are a number of good wine stores. I shop around.

This weekend exemplifies the reason that I feel no loyalty - excreble service. Living in L.A., I'm no stranger to attitude. These people are beyond attititude.

Sure, it was 5:45 on a Saturday evening, I stopped-in on the way home to grab a half dozen bottles of wine to sample as candidates for our 'holiday wine'. As I made my way into the store, I heard someone say "last call for alcohol". 5:47pm - better hurry but, I have time.

Every holiday season, I try to find a good, solid red that will compliment turkey, etc. and provide a fitting companion to the usual cheeses etc. The 6 weekends before Christmas are a delightful time, trying wines and patting myself on the back for finding the $15 bottle that drinks like $40.00. It's my prerogative, my money, my time.

I had picked up a couple of bottles of $9.99 Avalon Cab which I thought was decent, and as I was about to add a bottle of Macon to my take, I heard someone just behind me say: "Is that going to be all? I looked at the guy, and I started towards the crate as he says: "We're about to call an end to this ballgame".

Instead, I recoiled and headed towards the door, intending to buy the two bottles of Cabernet when I realized "wait a minute - I'm the customer - it's 5:50 and this guy is shooing my out of his store while I'm trying to spend another $120." As I suffer no fools - gladly or otherwise, I placed the two bottles on a handy crate, left the store and spent my money at his competitor at the other end of the lot.

POOR SERVICE AT THIS WINE SHOP – I tried to order two bottles of a $400 wine on the Los Angeles Wine Company website only to be informed, after I had completed the order, that they do not ship less than six bottles of wine. I sent an email to which I received an abrupt reply.

So you can order six bottles of a $12 wine and they will ship it, but they won't ship two bottles of a $400 wine. There are wine stores locally and all over the country who will gladly ship you whatever you want, be it one bottle or many cases. This policy makes no sense, unless you really don't care about your customers.

It's hard to beat this libation warehouse's selection and prices. – The Scene
Because the Los Angeles Wine Company buys its stock in large quantities, it can offer some of the best possible market prices. The inventory is always changing so you can't count on being able to find that bottle of bubbly you bought last month. But even if it's not in stock anymore, the folks behind the counter can most likely order it.

The Goods
Dedicated to obtaining the high-quality wines at the lowest possible price, the Los Angeles Wine Company is a warehouse of wines with constantly changing inventory that includes everything from chardonnay to cabernet, champagne to port. Orders placed for pickup are usually ready within 24 hours.
