Best Sushi Ever! – Ray's simply has the best sushi around. Ive always sat at the sushi bar where the service is excellent. The sushi chefs are friendly although some dont speak much english. However, if youre a pretty lady and you flirt with them they'll make you something special!! lol
Good Quality, HUGE portions! – If you want very good quality sushi and huge portions, then Ray's is your place. I have been eating there for a few years and have never been disappointed. I have taken a number of friends there and every single person has said,"This is my favorite sushi place". I even took one friend who played for the 49ers and he said, "I have eaten sushi all over the nation including Hawaii and this is the best value anywhere". Yes, it can get very busy and you may have to wait. Would highly recommend you sit at the sushi bar if you are worried about service, this is not a french restaurant. Again, if you want a tremendous value, go to Ray's. Anyone who bashes Ray, probably owns the restaurant down the road that is losing customers to Ray's.
save your money – I went to Ray's Sushi once and will not return again. Service and food is horrible. I can't tell you which is worse. Poor quality food with poor quality service.
never again – I got very ill both times I ate there...not recomended...I suggest Tomadashi's next to Toy's r Us in the same area,
Rays Sushi is getting more and more EXPENSIVE, Service is getting POOR, and they are too CHEAP to give Soda Refills – My husband and I have been going to Ray's for just about 10 years. Over the last years we have seen their business grow significantly and have been very pleased for them. Until recently that is. Over the last year as they grow we have seen their prices go up and up and their service down. On our last visit it took many minutes before anyone even approached our table, and then we had to ask everything including our SoyBeans to be delivered. We then found out that Rays no longer offers refills on Soda's. We approached Rays wife about this and all she had to say was "no more refills." Coke is cheap, losing customers isn't but it was obvious that she could care less. We let Ray know however as we left that with their higher prices, poorer and poorer service and and cheap practices will prevent us from ever again having a meal at Rays. We also intend to tell all of our Sushi loving friends the same.
Extremely Bad Service!!!! – I've eaten Japanese food at least twice a week all around the East Bay. I dare say, Sushi Ray is the worst service ever. Not even once I'm satisfy with the service. I agree the food is pretty fresh and the price is fair, but I've eaten better. If you want a similar food quality and an excellent service, I recommend Sushi Avenue on Marina Ave, San Leandro. Another place is also as good and much better than Ray's Sushi, that is Sushi House in city of Alameda. The service at Sushi Ray's is really bad, the waitress is quite rude and provide unfair treatment to different race. If you speak Chinese, you will definitely get good service, if not extra treats. If you have kids, don't mention it, they don't welcome children very much. There is no first come first serve. If you have a party of 4 and you arrive before the party of 5, they will give the large party first. Even if the table is available for 4 people also, they will give to the bigger party just so they can get more income into the restaurant first. I haven't got to the owner. The lady owner is quite stuck up, no wonder the employee follow her foot steps. This is the one store that enforces "rights to refuse service to anyone". Next thing you know, they won't have any one to refuse service to, b/c smart customer will soon realize what's good for them. Good food does come not only from the fresh food but from nice environment and excellent services.
Great Sushi, serivce ok. – The sushi here is fresh and great for the price. Sitting at the bar will get you the best service but the seating is close & cosy. Service depends upon the time you get there. The busier it is the slower the service will get. So, come early! Ray is the owner and head chef and you will often find him behind the bar but, he isn't afraid to come out and help either. Portions are good size and all is fresh. If you want it costomized just ask your chef! Call ahead for groups of 6 or more to ensure good seating. My top favorite.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE SERVICE – The service was horrible from the first step into the door! The waiting area is a small space and the waitress/hostess didn't know which group was which. There were several tables available but still had to wait a good 10 mintues to be seated and then when we were finally seated was only when one member from my party mentioned the service. She took us on a "tour" of the restaurant because she didn't know what table to take us to when there was one available right in front of her! Once seated, our table was clear, no utencils, water. Finally the only nice person in the restaurant brought us one cup of tea (there was 3 of us) and 15 minutes later we got the other 2 teas and our order but we had to get the waitresses attention for her to take our order. We watied a very long time to get our food. We ordered sushi and also asked for sides of steamed rice and soup and that came later after our main dishes had arrived and I had to remind the waitress to bring our rice and soup. It was just horrible. The worst part was when our check came, the tip was included! Such horrible service did not deserve a tip! I do give them points for the food, which was good. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone, no matter how good the sushi was. Bad service - bad food.
They Need to Respect Their Customers – I've been to this restaurant before, which was more than a year ago. Customer service was really awful back then and I was hoping to see some improvement. Unfortunately, yesterday night was worse than my previous experience. Nobody came around to our table to take our orders for a very long time and they didn't really acknowledge that we were there. After we finally placed our orders, the food also took forever to come. Almost an hour flew by before they gave us all of our entrees. My friends ordered the Sashimi and Tempura combos. Their sashimi came first and their rice and tempura arrived half an hour later. When the restaurant started to get a little more crowded, they sent two waitresses to where we were sitting and started cleaning plates off of our table recklessly. They ran out of tables to seat their other customers and they might have wanted to speed us along. The reason why we were still at the table was because service was extremely slow and we just finished putting the last bites into our mouths. When they were cleaning, sauces were flying and chopsticks were falling. One of the dirty chopsticks actually landed onto my jacket. I received no apology as she walked away. A couple of the plates that they removed from our table cleared my head by around three to four inches. Feeling that it was too close for comfort, I just got up to move out of their way. The food was okay, but they really have to hire employees that respect their customers. After two horrible experiences, I have given up on this restaurant and will not recommend this place to anyone.
Huge slices of sashimi!!! – Whenever my family craves sushi, Ray's is the place we go to. If you are a fan of nigiri sushi, Ray's gives you a lot of sashimi. One slice of sashimi at Ray's is the equivalent of 3 at most other sushi places in the area. Just a quick tip?the parking lot is currently being redone so parking is not available immediately in front of the restaurant.
