great food and nice ambience – I love italian food but this time I changed my mind and tried some Indian food .I went to TAJ MAHAL RESTAURANT first time in my life to try indian food.I was spell bound by their food and the service was ecstatic .I went during dinner time , firstly when we entered the restaurant we were greeted very well by the waiters and after that everything was in a timely manner. We never needed to speak a word of our mouth , everything was on time.I became a fan of Indian Food and will recommend everyone to go to TAJ MAHAL.

Great food and nice atmosphere – We took my daughter to Taj Mahal for her birthday, having never been before, and we were all very impressed! The service was great, and the food was really wonderful. The Chicken Tikka Masala was so good. Also try the Chicken Madras and of course the kheer for dessert. Yummy! We went at 8 PM on a Friday nite and didn't have to wait for a table. Parking was a snap due to the 'strip center' location.

Indian food without going to India. – Updated 9/8/08

Taj Mahal has changed ownership. The food quality is no longer good. The old owner's opened a restaurant called Mumtaz The food at Mumtaz is excellent and the food recommendations below remain the same!

Chicken Tikka Masala, Shajahani Biryani, Naan, Puri, and to finish off the perfect meal, gulab jamun for dessert! Only the Naan is on the buffet (generally served at lunch), sometimes the julab jamun, but it is definitely worth going a la carte!

Outstanding Sunday Dinner Buffet – Indian cuisine is one of my favorites and Taj Mahal showcases it well on its Sunday night buffet. The Chicken Tika will warm your heart and taste buds. The Sag Paneer was creamy, never letting any single ingredient overpower. Try the Madras spup it is heavenly. The thing impressing my the most was the Naan bread. Usually on a buffet the Naan gets dried out and hard. Here the Naan was as fresh as if you had just ordered it yourself. The price is not too bad for an area buffet. The service is excellent. My tea glass was never less than half full. The only draw back I personally can see is lack of booths and the restaurant is not very large, but in a way, that adds to the cozy feeling.

Average + indian restaurant – We went with a group of coleagues for dinner. The food was good, ok for the price. The restaurant is simple, and does not have enough air circulation, so the food smell in the restaurant is strong.

Indian spice-infused dishes served in a modestly elegant setting in north Dallas. – The Scene
Bedecked in ruby and gold, chandeliers and crisp white linen add an air of quiet formality to the long, narrow dining room. The tantalizing aroma of exotic spices and subdued Indian music make this Eastern gem seems worlds away from Central Expressway and the Tom Thumb shopping center in which it is located.

The Food
Lovers of Indian cuisine will be in nirvana. From the tandoor (a clay oven used for cooking meats) seekh-kebab, spiced ground meat grilled on a skewer, is a standout. Chicken tikka masala is boneless chicken pieces cooked in a mildly spiced cream and tomato sauce. Vindaloo gosht, beef or lamb cooked with potatoes in an intensely spiced sauce, provides extra kick for heat fanatics. Most dishes come with aromatic rice, but don't forget naan or one of the other specialty breads for sopping up extra sauce.

Great buffet. – I've been to Taj Mahal several times now for their lunch buffet and have never been disappointed. The traffic has always been high enough that you're certain the food on the buffet line is fresh.

$10 for a buffet lunch (w/ drink & tip) struck me as high at first, but I'm new to Dallas, and I've never hesitated to go back.

I've yet to try something off the menu, but I'm sure that when I do I won't be disappointed.
