Reviews for El Fenix

Went here with my date and the waitress was this huge mexican lady that barely spoke English. It was very frustrating in trying to get her to understand what we wanted to order. When the food arrived, it was not good at all and was along the lines of what you would get at Taco Bell.

When the bill arrived, we found the waitress had charged us $3.79 for two orders of gaucamole salads and also $1.40 a taco salad. My date had said she just wanted a small spoonful of gaucamole and the waitress had said this would be fifty cents. I had not ordered any guacamole at all and we did not order a taco salad.

I went up front to complain the the manager who was also mexican, and she got very defensive when I told her that the waitress could not speak English. After arguing with her for about five minutes, she finally agreed to just charge us fifty cents for the gaucamole that my date ordered.

She refused to remove the charge for the taco salad even though we did not order nor receive this. The waitress had given my date a very small plate w/some stips of lettuce on it that we thought came with her enchilada order. I suppose this was the “taco salad” that we were being charged for but had never ordered.

I went back the table where my date was waiting and the waitress came up to our table and started arguing with me in front of everyone. The manager had told her what I had said and the waitress was apparently going to make it a point to embarrass me. I told her to leave which she finally did.

I am going to be filing a complaint with the corporate office about the treatment we received and would advise everyone to stay away from this El Fenix in Addison.

Dallas's oldest and most famous chain practically invented Tex-Mex, and the chips, sauce, margaritas and enchiladas keep winning the accolades. – In Short
Opening its first restaurant in 1918, El Fenix is the gold standard to which other Mexican restaurants in Dallas measure up. It's bare-bones all the way, with white plates, brown booths, and regular ol' light bulbs. That's just like when the real cowboys came in with their spurs to chow down. The fajitas sizzle; the salsa punches and the chili and beans bring on the flavor--just like they're supposed to.
