thumbs up – While on vacation my family and I stopped at Mambo Sushi

I have to say this was one of the best restaurants I have been to sushi-wise that is.

Freshest fish, creative chef,

we tried all sorts of sushi combinations we hadn't had before

The atmosphere was warm and friendly

My kids liked the spicy rolls

can't reccomend it highly enough

Addictively Good! – "What a find! When my wife and I moved our family from Pacific Palisades, LA to Bainbridge Island, WA we considered the quaility of the schools first and the access to great sushi second! I envy anyone living within driving distance of Napa Valley's Sushi Mambo.

Seattle Sushi joints are known for their fresh fish and our Faves in LA, like Hide and Hamasaku always accessed the best available, so I asked Jose, the Mexican-American Owner how he managed to get hold of the freshest Hamachi my wife and I have ever tasted. Great story: This guy, is not typecast as the perfect sushi restaurant owner, no less sushi chef but 30 years in the biz, apprenticed in SF's Japantown and handling all fish acquisitions, he established the key wharf connections that serve his now 12 year-old biz in Napa. He's like the Mob Boss of the Fish World.

We didn't make reservations and the counter was full so we had to wait a bit. I prefer the counter but a table opened up first and I guess the Mayor of Napa is the hostess because she knows everyone and everything in and about Napa and it looks like she's in charge of the joint too, But she got us seated, introduced us to a young, rather overwhelmed waitress and we placed our order of Hamachi, Ahi and a Dynamite appetizer. Fantastic across the board, The Hamachi was smooth, well proportioned and with just the right amount of wasabi. The Ahi, my fave, looked so perfect in its red that I had to manage my expectations that it would be as good as my Hide Sushi's masterpiece. My wife tasted it first and just nodded. I dove in and that was it; when Hamachi and Ahi come together in perfect union, you know that the owner's got a connection to the fishing fleet! Someone's gotta write a book about this guy, prepping incredible sushi and entertaining the counter with his masterwork.

Okay, onto Rolls and forgive me my memory but I think it is the Diablo Roll which is absolutely unique to anything I've seen out there which is such a relief. I'm bloody tired of the same old roll. The Diablo was a combo of Salmon, Hamachi and Ahi and they broiled it over a spicy tuna roll, topped with Tobiko, which I asked for because I crave the crunchy.

They have this "Mambo" sauce which has chili in it! Chili! They have sauces with cilantro! They make their own Mayonaisse! Even Hide doesn't do that!

So we learned to make a reservation for dinner and we still had to wait but not long. That was a little irritating and the same hostess remembered us and sat us at a table that didn't have enough light but fine with me. I wanted the counter but it was full again.

We started with a chicken yakatori appetizer and nicely salted edamame plus steamed muscles with a spicy soy sauce. Gotta admit, we had the Hamachi, Ahi and the Diablo Roll again and then we felt a bit guilty about hanging out at our table while people were waiting so we got going.

My favorite Sushi Restaurant ever, doesn't exist anymore because a NYC joint stole the owner/chef, from us here on Bainbridge Island. My wife and I are sushi snobs. We like good sized portions. We like excellent quality. We like clean restaurants. Mambo Sushi takes great care in these areas. The ambience is pretty good but in truth I could care less.

I am not only giving 5 stars for the above but also for creativity. The combination of flavors even in something as simple as the Dynamite is just super.

I wish we had a Mambo Sushi joint here on Bainbridge Island. You know its good sushi when you crave and I mean CRAVE having it again and again.!

My recommendation: Make a reservation well in advance. We visited at a supposedly dead time tourist wise, and it was still packed so I guess the locals are wise to what they've go. Also, make friends with the Mayor-Hostess."

Absolutely Terrible Experience!!!! – I have no clue how there are so many positive reviews on this website! Must be the owner signing up under different accounts! My friends and I had a terrible experience at Sushi Mambo. There were 6 of us there but only 4 that ordered any food and we were still charged 18% gratuity!! I'm sorry but $134.87 seems a little pricey for 4 people to eat. The service was ridiculously slow and the food took forever to come out! I will never eat there again and have told EVERYONE I know never to try it.

Sushi Mambo combines great sushi with a friendly staff. – Sushi Mambo is always a treat, starting with the warm greeting from the sushi chefs as we enter. The fresh, deep red Ahi in the cases catches our eye as the creative rolls and artistic platters come forth from behind the sushi bar. Sushi Mambo is our favorite restaurant in Napa. The friendly and talented chefs deliver delicious, eye-pleasing sushi accompanied by a healthily side order of humor. Sushi Mambo takes us back the neighborhood sushi experiences of the 80's that got us hooked on sushi in the first place. From the "Raw Deal" roll to the "Just For The 4 The Halibut? and the ?Whatever?s Clever? rolls, premium fish, generous servings and creative preparation are the strong points for this ?not to be missed? Napa dining experience.

Best Unfiltered Sake and Fresh Sushi – My girlfriend and I have visited Sushi Mambo many, many times; in fact we remember the old building where they use to be housed before moving to the current location; that is how long we been loyal customers. Our loyalty is based on the high quality of food and the atmosphere createdby the ownership and the staff alike. From the welcome in Japanese of the Chefs to the corteous thank you from the hostess at the end of the meal. No wonder these place is always busy! We will be back soon for another delicious meal. wonderful – I only recently moved to Napa from the City and have been craving Sushi, with no idea of where to go. There are only two Sushi restaurants in Napa, from what I have heard. I was told that Sushi Mambo is the one to try. I sat at the bar, on a Saturday night. Still early and not very busy, the place slowly began to fill up. There was a nice jazz music playing, and then the hum of customers enjoying a night out. I realized I was in a good place. My chef, tall and blond, told me he learned to make Sushi in San Diego, at a Japanese restaurant there, and said he is graduating student of the Culinary Institute of America. His accent from Tennessee and his blue eyes was far from being asian, but his sushi is die for. Also he was fun to chat with!! Very nice guy!!

I was impressed. I am a big Sushi Lover, and was delectable and mouthwatering fresh, and beautifully presented. Reading other reviews here, I am surprised that people wrote poorly about the service, but there was no problem at all in that department. Besides the friendly and skilled sushi chef from the deep south, my water was refilled and my sake was brought out hot. I was a happy clam!

Great – YUMMMMY

I occasionally have to take business lunches up in Napa and LOVE this place. I have been going for several years now and have come to know the staff and the menu quiet well. The further you get away from the City the worse Sushi tends to get, but this place is an exception.

My business partner is not much of a Sushi fan, so he stuck with the Tempura, and it was lightly battered and exceptional. I selected from one of their many fun rolls, and had the Just 4 the Halibut and the Fungus Among Us. After devouring just two rolls, I wasn't ready to stop. So good!! I ordered some traditional nigiri, tuna and hamachi.. and the freshness was out of this world!

I'm not sure why a few people have given bad reviews here, but trust me, you will LOVE the sushi, the tempura and other treats on this playful menu. Sushi Mambo, keep up the good work!

What a Wonderful Place! – My wife and I started going to Sushi Mambo on a about a year ago. Their friendly service and delectable cuisine has kept us coming back. In fact we found the atmosphere so soothing and the fresh sushi so inviting that we have dubbed the end of each week ?Sushi Friday? and make the effort to go to Sushi Mambo for lunch or dinner. The sushi chefs are not only skilled at their art, but charming to chat with as well. The sushi dishes are creatively named and the ingredients seem to blend together in delightful combinations of scrumptiousness. The service staff is pleasant, courteous, friendly and attentive. The place is usually bustling with business, but the staff is swift and efficient. We have never had a bad meal at Sushi Mambo. Do yourself a favor and have lunch or dinner at this fine establishment.

Worst sushi dining experience ever – When I saw that this restaurant had five stars and such low prices, I thought "Wow, this must be one of those super cool holes in the wall that you only stumble upon by accident or have to hear about through your friends," but I was wrong. The sushi was sub average at best (I could get the same quality at any higher end supermarket for much less money) and the service was absolutely abysmal. It was extremely frustrating gaining the attention of the servers, though I frequently called for them making pleading eye gestures, waving, even calling out to them directly, all to no avail. Even as the servers passed by me and made eye contact, they kept moving on. We had to ask for our bill three times and only got it after complaining that we had asked so many times and had been waiting up to half an hour. I will definitely never come here again.

Sushi Mambo has an excellent and caring staff, and we would never let a customer work so hard to get our attention. As of the last part of 2008, my site and the reviews have been compromised as far as their integrity.

Each an every customer is treated with the greatest attentiveness possible, and if for some reason, a customer is not happy, I may be called directly and the matter will be discussed. No questions will be asked, and I will send a total refund for any inconveniences made, or if the customer decides a future gift certificate, or both.

It is my objective for my business to be a place where not only the food is of the highest quality and presentation, but also that the service is excellent as well.
