Tips for the Show – I've been to several performances here and have some good tips.
I would eat before coming here. There are so many good restaurants in Houston. So, why would you want to eat a manufactured-tasting Caesar?
If you can get to Downtown right at 6:00 PM, you might find a great free parking spot around Birra Porretti's or across from the Bayou City Center. Do not park at a red parking meter and double check the signs. Metered parking is free after 6:00 PM. Event parking is only $5 at Birra Porretti's.
The bathrooms at the Orchestra level are a little too crowded at intermission. It reminds me of going to a concert. Go to the restroom before the show.
If you left the kids at home, you might want to bring home a pink collectable or frilly thing from one of the kiosks there.
If you want to purchase future tickets while you are there, they have a kiosk. I reccomend buying online though, because the kiosk might be manned by a volunteer who doesn't have all the answers...like we experienced.
The beggars might approach you after the show.
Great show - don't be in hurry to leave – The Wortham is a beautiful building and venue...just don't try to get out of it when the show is over.
We were there for The Nutcracher this evening. The show was beautiful, BUT IT TOOK US HEARLY A HALF HOUR JUST TO GET TO AN EXIT !!! God forbid that place should have an evacuation emergency. No stairs to a ground floor, puney, slow elevators that are only 30% functional, an under-engineered escalator that will only take 40% capacity. It ruined our entire evening.
A celebrated arts venue that draws flocks of well-dressed patrons to a variety of opera, dance, music and theatrical events. – The Scene
The Center consists of two spaces, the 2,376-seat Alice and George Brown Theater and the 1,100-seat Lillie and Roy Cullen Theater, boasting unobstructed sightlines and admirable acoustics. The entryway and lobbies alone are spectacular enough to draw a crowd.
Brown is the home of the Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera and Theater Under the Stars. The Houston Ballet is the fifth-largest ballet company in the country and its season is a mixed bag of classic and contemporary offerings; the HGO is a reliable source of big-budget, upscale offerings. The more intimate Cullen Theater accommodates smaller productions of the opera and ballet, as well as Da Camera of Houston and Society for the Performing Arts.
