I love this store! The people, the service and the products are fantastic. There is no other store quite like it in Houston and I will continue going until my kids get too big! Lisa is always friendly and is great to work with. She has lots of ideas on custom bedding and the furniture pieces are beautiful!
Snobby, rude staff – I have shopped at Doodles on and off when the need arises for many years. They have unique, up to date items, but I couldn't agree more with the other reviewers. Some of the staff is VERY rude, especially in the custom bedding. What an attitude! Certainly not customer service oriented. Snappy, short, and arrogant. There seemed to be a sprinkling of cheerful, helpful staff, and a smattering of snotty. After interaction with her, I felt uncomfortable, and definitely will try to find other places to shop.
Worst.Customer.Service.Ever! – The people who work in this store are rude. They do not care about pleasing the customer. When I told the clerk (Lindsey) by phone that I had ordered the personalized item 30+ times for various baby showers/gifts and done so by phone, her response was still that I had to drive 30 miles to their store to place the order. The only reason I am giving this store one star is that "no stars" is not an option. Yes, they have cute, unique items. Guess what? So does any number of other stores in Houston, and they have just gained a new, loyal frequent buyer.
If you've got what it takes... – Beautiful, custom, elite.
If you have an ego made of steel, perhaps you can endure the less-than-welcoming persona of Doodles.
And... a few of the "5 Star" reviews were posted by the owner... I'm just saying.
Doodles has the worst customer service ever – I signed up on CitySearch just so I could write this feedback about Doodles. I had received warnings from friends about the staff not being very nice and them having problems with custom orders on items like furniture for their child's room. Doodles does carry a nice selection so I have subjected myself to their honestly terrlble customer service a handful of times. This past visit (last week) was equally as poor as prior times. The staff in the store didn't acknowledge me at all- nobody made contact with me, asked if I needed anything, asked how I was doing. And I was one of only 2 customers in the store! the employees were at the check out booth just talking amongst themselves. So I walked in and out of that store without ever being contacted by an employee. The time before I had my 14 month old child with me and was having a hard time figuring out if clothing would fit him. I selected a few items, held them up to his body, he wasn't very happy about it, this whole time not one single employee asked me if they could help, if I needed another size, nothing! This particular time I confronted a nearby employee about their utter lack of customer service. She acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. Seriously the worst customer service of any store I've ever been in...my entire life!
Safety First – As the owner of Doodles I was stunned to read such a malicious review against my 6 year old son, store, as well as myself.
As a safety precaution we asked that the child be removed from the top of the bunkbed that is for display purposes only. It has been set up with a blowup mattress and no support system and the ladder to the bunkbed has been removed in order to prevent children from climbing to the top. After numerous times of asking the Grandfather, who was watching the child, to get the child down he refused.
As far as the comments regarding my son, HE IS SIX, enough said. I have never left him at my store for my employees to watch. Unlike many of my customers who continue to complain when they are asked to supervise their children, I am always aware of the safety of my child and would never leave him unattended.
It is sad that any of my customers would have this impression of my store. As a store owner, I must look out for the safety of my patrons even if they don't watch out for themselves. I have also learned that after 13 years in business that there are certain customers that you can never please.....no matter how hard you try!
Horrible business – I have gone to doodles many times and have bought many things. I can find almost everything they sell online for cheaper even if you include shipping cost. I have only brought my two year old in store once and never again will i shop there. Don't know if they actually know that they are a children's store. I have a very well behaved two year old, we were in the store looking at bunk beds. My son was checking them out we wanted to make sure he liked them and we were also looking at clothes and everything. Never once were we asked if we needed help and when they saw my son near the bunk beds they were so rude to us until we said we wanted to purchase them, and even then they weren't that nice.
my mom and I were shopping around seeing if the temperature of the workers would change and my son was with my father, i went back to check on them and the owners son was sitting talking to them, he was accusing my son of breaking something, he said he was watching him on the camera. I checked out the toy he was talking about and it wasn't at all broken, but he kept on. the owners son was extremely rude to us and nobody was watching him. as we were leaving the store the owner was pulling up, i guess she drops her kid off to be babysat and to bother the customers. clearly they don't care about their customers.
we walked out without the bunkbeds which i am very glad we didn't purchase from them. it would have taken 8 weeks to get them and i found them online for $500 cheaper, free shipping, and i got them in a week.
LOVE DOODLES! – I recently purchased all of my baby furniture and bedding from Doodles. It was a wonderful experience. The whole staff was very kind and helpful. Lisa, one of the owners, spent a long time with me going over all my furniture options, fabric choices, etc. They pretty much said they could get me whatever I wanted. They have such a big selection with a lot of unique items you won't find at the big retailers.
It saddens me to read such negative reviews about this store. I met both Irene (the other owner and mother) and Lisa (the daughter) and they were more than nice. I will surely be back in the future. LOVE this store!!
Terrible customer – I went to the Doodles store, loved their stuff, bought several things, and then made the big mistake of ordering something from one of their venders. FYI, I ordered letters for my daughter's room that are hand painted. They told me that it would take approximately six weeks for the letters to get the vendors to paint the letters. After 6 weeks, I called several times. The girls said that they didn't have a manager. This was later confirmed by the owner, Lisa. Every time I called, the girls did not follow up with the vendor. They just reassured me that the letters would be there soon.
At 8 weeks, I called again and spoke to the owner's mother, Irene. Irene decided to call the company for the first time. Irene discovered that the company never received the order. She offered my compensation of shipping directly from the vendor. She also offered to expedite the order so that I would receive it within two weeks. At 10 weeks, I called again. Again, it was hard to reach Irene (the pseudo manager). Irene finally got on the phone and told me that it would be another two weeks. Irene promptly got off the line when I became angry. Lisa(the owner) finally got on the line and apologized. Again, no mention of any further compensation. In a nutshell it will take over 3 months (maybe 4) before I receive the letters. Hopefully, this will be before the baby comes.
Bottom line, NICE STUFF-HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!
Makes me sad – I have never been in Doodles, but before you go in, you should read what they did to my sister-in-law.
My brother passed away in February. In the aftermath of planning the services, explaining it to a 4, 2 and 8 month old, moving my sister-in-law and the kids into my parents house, etc a dear friend helped us by decorating the baby's room. She was very kind to do this, but chose items that did not match what my sister-in-law already had. So, the items went back to the store unused, 11 days after purchasing them.
The owner of the store and her mother informed my sister-in-law's sister (who was making the return) that items could not be returned after 10 days. She explained that we had just moved everyone in the day before and that in light of my brother's death, everyone had other things on the mind. The owner told her that "It's not my problem" and it would be "unsanitary" to take the items back. Well, sister-in-law's sister protested, to which the owner responded, "We're in the business of making money, not the sympathy business." Long story short, an argument ensued and the owner took her name and told her never to come back to the store.
As a family, we have seen the best and the worst in people. It has been truly incredible how kind some have been. Unfortunately, Doodles has not been kind, and watching my sister-in-law further upset by this store has been difficult. Needless to say, I will not be shopping in Doodles at any point in the future. It must be a hard business, and I am saddened that the owner must be so stressed all the time to respond in this manner... Best of luck to her, but maybe in a non-customer service related field.
PS- I believe Doodles issued a store credit for a portion of the items purchased after another visit to the store. So, to be fair, they made an effort.
