Bad restaurant !! Went there with my friend .. Very dirty restaurant!! All makes servers!! Buffet on a Satuday average...very poor selection of food. Server brought drink of choice to table and then we were completely ignored!! Servers running around clueless and very serious.. I just got a bad bibes from this place!!! Won't recommend this place for a pleasant Indian food experience!! Poor restaurant higiene!!
Mouthwatering – Shiva's is hands down the best indian restaurant in Houston and could quite possibly be one of the best in Texas. The atmosphere was great during my visit last month and the staff was very attentive and courteous. The food is off the charts and hit every tastebud with sharp, concise flavors. The food tasted very clean and did not seem overseasoned or overspiced. Overall, it was a great experience and I will definitely be visiting again with my in laws so I can leave a good impression.
Best of CitySearch ?? Someone at Citysearch needs to wake up – We had friends visiting from out of town and decided to take them here for lunch this past saturday. Pity there are no stars to the left of the EH rating, because thats what I'd give to this excuse of an indian restaurant. Bad no wait horrible food, a buffet that they had to hide in the second room because guess what if people walked in and looked, they would leave. The food was that bad, there was a stink of something gone bad around the buffet line, the chicken curry was clearly watered down, the goat well put it this way was wayyy past its prime, and everything else could be summed up in one word CRAP. We have had catered lunches from this restaurant at our church that have been just as bad. The lunch crowd was mainly caucasian and that really should have been a red flag but we were hungry and it was late. Bombay Brassiere two streets across would have been so much more better. Man, what a waste of a good location.
Pathetic food, Rude Management and DIRTY!! – I had visit this restaurant yesterday on my tour to Houston. It was my first and last visit to this particular restaurant. I will try any other restaurant in the city on my next visit. I am vegetarian so I choose this restaurant as it is near to the places we visited. Firstly, the restaurant restroom was very dirty. Secondly, the food is not even near to Indian Authentic food. The Lentil did not have even bit of salt, forget about other spices. At least they could have put salt and pepper to the dining table if they make so worse food so that visitor can customize it. The Biryani/Pulao had piece of cheese (Paneer) that has the worst taste I ever had. It tasted like it was cooked several days ago and they did not even warm it. The Table given to us had two glasses of water which were used by previous customer. We had to ask twice to remove them and get clean glasses. When I told the manager about the food, his expression does seem that they are ok with whatever has happened and it does not affect them. I am from India and know about the North Indian food. From Rating 1 to 10, I cannot give it more than 1, infact if I could go to negative marking, I would have given that. No offence to the people giving feedback of 4 star or 5 star, they might not known to Indian food. I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Not authentic Indian food and dirty dirty! – The food was not bland. It did have taste, however, it's not authentic Indian. AND the dealbreaker for me is, they have these sheer colored curtains hanging from the ceiling. THEY ARE COVERED IN A 2 INCH LAYER OF FILTH! A restaraunt HAS to be clean!! Where's Marvin Zindler when you need him??? There's no doubt, slime in this ice machine!
Great place for Indian food – Shiva is my favorite Indian restaurant. The food is
fabulous and consistently good. I have been eating at Shiva's since my days at Rice University. They have a lunch buffet that is worth the pain of parking in Rice Village. Moderately priced, and fresh tasty food keeps me coming back to Shiva's. Shiva's is always busy , so I recommend that please have some time on your side. A great place for spectacular delicious Indian food. The waitstaff are very courteous and prompt. They keep their patrons coming back.
The four arms of rudeness – My first encounter with Shiva in the Rice Village was about seven years ago. I was unexperienced with this ethnic food and all I remember is that i sweated like a foodball player in summer practice. I decided to go back and give it a second chance. After all, I had already learned to like Indian food. I have gone to about seven restaurants in the city and wanted to know what was all the hype about Shiva.
BIG MISTAKE! Not that the food was bad, or memorable but the service is poor. Poorer than Bush's vocabulary.
I mean, one of the weiters spilled water on the table and did not offer to transfer us to another one. He just handed out napkings and expected us to dry the table and eat on top of the damp cloth. Service was rushy and spartan.
I cannot recomend this place. I will not be seeing the "auspicious one" in the village again. Hopefully
Shiva keep up the good work – Always loved Shiva for their food, atmosphere, freindly staff .
I visited their Sugar land location and the food was yummy as always. It was lunch buffet and to my surprise they had Noodles with spiced flavor. It was beyond words. Loved it a lot. . A place to visit if you like authentic Inidan food, in a family atmosphere with Inidan insturmental music being played to soothe your ears. One thing I could complain was the manager who was dressed and carried himself well, but had a grumpy look.
Very Pleased!! – I have to say, after reading the previous reviews, I was a little skeptical to try this place. From the moment I walked in and smelled the wonderful food to the time I left, I was more than pleased. The waiters were quick to get us served with water and bread. My glass was never more than half empty before it was refilled. The food came out in a very timely manner and was absolutley fabulous. Prices were very cheap considering the amount of food and quality. Whoever ate there and said it was 100 bucks for 4 people obviously ordered like 3 entrees for himself. If you love Indian food please ignore all the reviews and go try this place. I cant wait to go back!!
Great food – I was in Houston with family and went to the lunch buffet. The food was great. The mutton curry, chicken curry and hot Naan were great. But the service was extremely poor. Waiter did not come for drink refills and when we wanted the bill split he was annoyed. The buffet is advertised for less than it is. Any Desi knows that traditional food has to be eaten by hands. The atmosphere in the restaurant did not allow this. Ever tried cutting some meat off bones with a fork and knife?? I think you get the point. It was frustrating and we got food all over. But over all food was yummy and fresh.
FYI - They don't have a lunch menu. Only lunch buffet. So if you are not hungry enough for the buffet do not go there!
