Excellent Work, On Time, On Budget – Personal services like tailoring can be frustrating. Most of us don't get it done all that often. That's the case with me. My suits are all handmade in Hong Kong. Thanks to some stress and good exercise I dropped a fair amount of weight about two years ago. I've had several of my suits and two pairs of pants altered by Martins. They did a great job. Not ok, but great. You can't tell my suits have been worked on. Now, to be fair, Martins was recommended to me by a long time Houstonian. She was right.
I would recommend them to anyone! – I've done business with them for years, and would recommend them to anyone. They are not always perfect - who is - but they ALWAYS make things right in the end. And they are prepared to rush when you need things in a hurry. Most recently, they cut down a blazer for me - completely remaking the thing to take it from a size 44 to a 40. It fits unbelievably well!
I can't speak to their prices, because their customer service has been so good that I have never felt like comparison shopping.
Expect to pay - overpriced – I took a bridesmaid dress in to get altered. I had the hem done and three other minor things. They charged me $36 dollars for the hem and $68 dollars total for the dress and even said my charge was cheaper than it should be. At a quick glance the alterations look good but I will definitely be shopping around for a more reasonable tailor.
Can I give negative stars? – Ruined my $150 BCBG dress by cutting off so much fabric that they turned it into a shirt.
When I brought in my dress, I had already safety pinned the dress to indicate where the dress should be hemmed - approx 3 inches. I asked if that was okay (as I usually tried it on in the store) that I just wanted it hemmed to where the safety pin was, and the person assured me it would be. When I went to pick it up, I was shocked, and then was informed that they never guarantee work that you pin yourself. I immediately said if it was a difference of 1-2 inches, sure… but the difference here is an extra 6 inches!
Now, I understand mistakes happen (as much as I don’t like to be that unfortunate person), but it’s all about how you fix the problem. To add insult to injury, they asked me to wait, went to the back, and came back with a 2 inch piece of fabric from my dress and said, “This is all we cut off.” What are you trying to prove? You turned my dress into a shirt by chopping off almost a foot of fabric, and you’re going to come back with a 2 inch piece of fabric (which you could have cut in half while you’re in the back, or made several cuts) and then tell me that’s all you took off?! WOW! They never once offered to give me back what I paid for the alterations, so now I’m out $170 for BOTH the alteration and the dress. NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN!!!
Finally!! – First time to use Martin this week. Was shocked how fast they got my suit back and how accurate it was. A business that does what they say they are going to. What a concept. They have just earned a loyal customer.
Retraction of prior review – Sometimes we do things harshly and without considering the consequences that we regret later. My poor review of Martin's was one of those occasions. Although my garment was never found, I do not blame Martin's. Things just happen some time that no one really knows how and none of these parties were to blame. I received some devasting personal news right after this post and quickly realized that life has nothing to do with the "things" we have, but the affect we have on the lives of others. The Martins and I had very meaningful conversations in this regard since the incident and I consider them to be, not only excellent tailors who I continue to recommend to anyone that speaks of that need, but some of the most honest, finest, God-fearing hard working people I know. I consider myself lucky that they chose to include me in their prayers and accepted my apology. Please take your clothes here and get to know this family owned and operated business.
Wonderful Tailor – Martin Tailor does a great job, is reasonably priced, and has your items back to you quickly. What more you need in a tailor? They have tailored suits, tops, and dresses for me and they always do a great job. Try them out! You won't be disappointed!
Editorial Review – Full-service tailor on the west side of town.
Great little tailor shop! – I tried this place after relocating to Houston and reading the earlier reviews on this website. I've now used Martin Tailors 4 times and have been completely satisfied with their work each time. Very friendly staff and quality work of all sorts...I've had both expensive suits and jeans tailored by them, and even had small repair work on different shirts. Highly recommended!
Excellent alterations every time – I highly recommend Martin Tailors. They are quick, efficient and very customer focused. Every time I've taken them something, they get it back to me sooner than promised. The place may not look like much from the outside, but if you're looking for professionals try this place.
