Amrid is a good company – I've used them for 6 years after they inspected the last home that I purchased. They bill us if we want. My wife hates roaches and appreciates their reminders to schedule an appointment. They get the job done, and they seem to keep the same techs a long time.
Houston's Professional Pest Service – I have known Amrid and Tony Thayer for around 25-years. Since I do home inspections and engineering reports on foundations for home buyers, I have seen many pest control technicians at numerous homes. I have probably done around 5000 home inspections with Amrid. In addition, Amrid does work at my personal home. I know Tony Thayer, the owner, and many of his people. So I know whereof I speak.
There are many good termite / pest control companies in Houston. Amrid is certainly one of the very best. All his people take the time to do a first class job. There is no one in Houston that is better than Tony Thayer at explaining to home buyers what they are getting into (with respect termites, etc.) and what is required to correct the situation.
If a home buyer or owner asks Tony to do something he does not think is the right thing to do, he will simply turn the work down.
One of the things Tony and Amrid does is that if they do a termite report for a real estate transaction and the new owner finds active termites within 90 days, he will treat the whole house for free. That is extremely generous since termites could show up at any time. There may be others who do this but, if so I do not know who it would be.
I have worked with Tony at home shows where he spent much of his time telling home owners how they could take care of certain problems themselves without professional assistance.
I have never had any reason to complain with the work Tony and his people have done at my home. They do what they promise to do. They do it when they said they would and they do it for the price they quoted. And they do their work in a professional and knowledgeable manner. You cannot ask for a better pest control service.

My WDI Inspector!!!!!!! – 1st off if you are looking for someone to help you get over on a seller call someone else.
Now for my review.
I am in the market for a house. A Couple of months back I put in a contract on a house and called my previous Termite Company to see if they did inspections but they did not. I asked if they could recommend anyone to, Amrid was their choice and Toni was the man to ask for (not sure if I can put his name). I trust that company so I called Amrid. I scheduled the appt and advised I was having a home inspection done at the same time and wanted the WDI inspection during that window. I was advised the inspector would not be there at the beginning of the window I gave but would arrive with plenty of time to complete an inspection. No problem because Structural takes 4 hours and WDI takes about 1.5 hours.
Fast Forward to Inspection date.
I am speaking to my Structural/Foundation inspector (Highly Reputable in the Houston/Metro area) and mention I am also having a WDI Inspection by Amrid his response is "Toni!! He's great" then I am speaking to my Realtor and the outcome is the same. Talk about feeling good about your decision, so far 3 companies/people I trust recommend him to me. During the inspection Toni is taking time to explain what he is finding to me. He found Carpenter ants but not enough to warrant a professional service and explains how I can go to a Big Box store and get the supplies and do it myself (back to my initial statement, he is honest and will not lie to get over on the sellers or sell a service I don’t need).
Well that house fell through and I am now under contract again and it is one again time to inspect. Guess who I called......Give up?? Toni
On this house I have a mold report done, and guess who that inspector knows and has nothing but praise for? You guessed it, Toni. That makes 4 Companies/people recommending him. If you have not figured it out that is how I find reputable people to do business with. All four people that recommended Toni were recommended to me by friends and companies I do business with. The outcome of this inspection is the same. He advises there is a need for repairs due to rotten wood and some leaks in the roof. Back to his honesty, he advised while there was a lot of rot they were generally easy fixes and for me not to be discouraged by the report and for me to get a couple of bids to have it repaired.
If this house falls through for me Toni will be there on the next.
Bottom line... Amrid is an honest company; they do honest inspections and only sell you what you need. If you are looking for someone that is going to get you several thousand off of the cost of a house by giving a false report or sell you something you don’t need go elsewhere, Amrid is not that company. If you are an honest person looking for an honest inspector Amrid is the place to go.
Worst Pest Inspector in Houston – WARNING!!!!! Do NOT use this company!!!!!! They are nice at first but suddenly this company twisted my words and slandered me to Seller's of home and their Realtor.
I am a Buyer from another state....had an initial pest inspection done which came up with red flags for termites. They could not treat stucco homes and recommended I find another company who will guarantee work on Stucco. Thus I was recommended to AMRID. They were professional AT FIRST but once the Seller agreed to pay them, they would no longer cooperate with me. Once I was in town, there receptionist, Trish refused to have the Inspector come out and walk the property with me. Once I told her that our contract depended on this Inspection, she immediately hung up the phone from me and called the Seller's Realtor and my Lender and TOLD THEM THAT I WAS ASKING THEM TO FALSIFY DOCUMENTS!!!!! ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!!!!! I asked only for the Inspector to review the inspection with me since I had just come in from out of state and had some concerns after the first inspection found termites. I see from a previous post that I am not the first person they have done this to. I can't believe this company would make up LIES. They also said that they will not treat the property if I am the Buyer!!!! The Sellers lost confindence in me and would not allow me on the property for the third Inspector. After DEFAMING my character to the Lender and the Seller's agent, the sellers would not allow me on the property for the third company that came out for the pest inspection because I would "mess it up". This was totally upsetting and unnerving that a company that is as "reputable" as Amrid would make up lies. Perhaps they were trying to save their own ass for not doing a thourough Inspection!! Please take my advice and DO NOT USE this company!!!!!! In fact, use this company only if you want to hire liars that are willing to mess up a deal. If you do hire them then I would make sure to be present for all treatments because if their field workers are anything like their office workers, I would bet that their treatments are not reliable or effective. Besides, their price was extremely high...$1700 for a Termidor soil treatment. This company is totally SHADY!!!
Faithful Service – We have used Amrid Pest Control for over 7 years now, and we have been very pleased with their service. We use them for quarterly pest control service and annual termite inspections on all our properties (5). We also use them for initial termite inspections when purchasing properties and for special projects, such as rat control or curing moth problems. The technicians we use (Joel or Howard for regular service; Tony, the owner, for initial termite inspections) are thorough, very attentive to details, and catch what others miss. (They are also so personable and friendly, really nice guys). I've tried other pest control companies before, and while they may pull up in a marked car, and appear in uniforms, this does not mean they do the best job. I think some of the negative reviews are placing the emphasis on the wrong qualities, if you ask me. Yes, it's true that the technicians do not ordinarily wear company uniforms, but since we always use the same person(s), we know them well and do not expect them to come in uniform. I think it speaks well of the company that the same technicians have been with them for a long time. It's not Bob today, Bill tomorrow, Tom the next day, etc.
I have not really had a problem with scheduling, timely appearances, or front-desk issues as others have described. In my experience, they have done a great job. I appreaciate the quarterly postcard reminders and the follow up phone calls because I have enough on my plate not to also have to keep up with making sure I'm on a regular schedule.
Yes, it's true that they ask for payment when they complete the work, but if you don't have a checkbook or credit card with you, you can ask them to invoice you. They will do that if you ask, but if you do that, to be fair, you should be timely in your payment. They have some sort of arrangement where the technicians' pay is tied to when customers pay for their service.
Overall, we have been very happy with their service.
Very Unprofessional – Amrid did a WDI report on my house for a buyer who could not obtain financing, so I was left to deal with the report. There were two inspections done on the house a year and a half earlier. Neither of those inspections found any active or previous termite infestations. Amrid found both previous and active infestations. To verify this report, I had three experts from two different companies come out to give me their opinions. None of them found any evidence of termite infestation, previous or active. When I talked with the inspector from Amrid, he became argumentative and suggested I was trying to make him do something underhanded by changing the report. All I wanted was more information. The owner of the company was even more hostile. I would not want to deal with these people under any circumstances.
Good Service – i have had very good service from Amrid. I have used them for about 3 years. I can usually get an appointment within a couple of days and they are always here on time. i wish I could get a bill instead of writing a check, but that's a small issue.
Difficult to contact. Failed to return phone calls. – I cannot rate Amrid Pest Control on their service as they did not bother to return my calls. However, I would like to point out that their failure to respond to service requests is both unprofessional and frustrating. The "girls" (I assume this means the receptionists?) were out of the office when I called, but a gentleman took my name and number, promising a return call the following morning to set up an appointment. When I did not receive a return call, I attempted to contact them again, but was unable to reach anyone at their office.
a unprofessional appearance, unprofessional office personnel – A little unprofessional especially in the appearance of the company vehicle. no uniforms. old equipment being used on the job. A little old fashioned for my taste
not recommended, slow service time, not on time to service – this company is not recommended, not on time, they call you all the time when you don't even need service. Not a very good customer service attitude when you call into their office. I don't recommend them.
