Cheap chinese eats, especially the dumplings. So this place is actually called "San Dong", a little fast-food type Chinese eatery on the corner of Bellaire and Beltway 8. I was bit skeptical because their prices were so cheap, but the food here is just like the street food you would find in China. Cheap, tasty, nothing fancy, and no service to speak of. You order at the counter - everything is about $5-6, you get your own water and utensils, sit down and someone will bring your food to you. They have awesome pan-fried dumplings, which I always order - and if you're eating in the restaurant, try the pork chop or the fried chicken rice plate. They are fried crispy and super tasty, come with a bit of bok choy and rice, and make an easy meal for about $6. Next to the counter is a rack full of steamed bao that are pretty good as well. I tried to leave a tip on the table once, but a Chinese lady at the table next to me insisted that it was only optional. I spied a glass vase on the counter and left a couple bucks there, but again it's optional. Cash only.

I have never had better dumplings. Ever.. I have been coming to Santong for years, long before they upped and moved to their newest location (closer to the Beltway). They have the best pan-fried dumplings ever. I like to dip them in a mix of soy sauce and chili. Believe me and the other reviewers here, they're completely irresistible.

Very good pricing too - menu items range from $1-5. Noodles are good, and so are the little cellophane wrapped plates of cold snacks. But yes, if it's your first time - get the dumplings. I don't like to split them, but you can get them as an appetizer with a friend and then have a bowl of beef noodles (also recommended). One of the drawbacks is that it's a fairly small restaurant and it gets pretty packed on the weekends, so it starts feeling cramped quickly - but there's always takeout.

Best. Soup. Evar.. I have been eating at Santong snacks for quite some time now. In all the trips I have taken here, I never get tired of the Beef Soup Dumplings. The dumplings are outstanding, but the broth will blow you away. If you are ever in the Bellaire area and are looking for exceptional dishes at an unbelieveable price, check this one out.
