Consigning At Crayons – As the owner to Crayons I made a decision last year to charge a $1 pull fee to all items clients want back at the end of their 120 consignment. I have 99% very satisfied clients as many do not want their items back. I do offer a year end tax report of all items left at my store so my clients may use this on their taxes. This $1 fee covers 120 days of marketing, pricing, santizing & tagging if required by state law, insurance on all items and my time. If anyone feels that our time and overhead for this 120 days is not worth the $1 fee to handle their items, then yes, I do recommend they rethink leaving their items with us. We work hard making money for our clients and we have many who come back month after month. Things do change with new owners as that is part of change. Change can be good for those who are open to it and with the economy we are in, there must be change. Come see for yourself why we are #1 and the largest childrens resale. Not Happy Consignor – When I called to find out about consigning with them, they told me that I needed to make an appointment in order to bring in my items. When I got there, I was given the contract and it was then that I was told that if I wanted my items back at the end of the contract, I would have to pay them $1.00 per item that was pulled. I honestly did not like that, but I was hoping that I would not have anything left. Besides, I figured, they were the ones that picked the best ones. In all of the 20+ years of being a consignor, this is the first time that I was really disappointed with a Resale Shop. I had consigned before with the previous owner, Tessa, and this was not on the contract. I work for a large company and there are several people that ask me to give them a good Resale Shop for kids. Unfortunately, I will not be telling them about this one and I will not consign with them ever again.
Disappointed potential consignor. – I have visited Crayons before as a buyer and decided to try to consign my children's items to potentially receive some proceeds to use for future clothing purchases. I made an appointment with one of the co-owners, Gail and arrived five minutes early for my sceduled appointment. Emily, the other co-owner, was not pleasant and quite gruff when I asked what I thought were the usual questions a first-time consignor might ask. Her responses were flippant and condescending as she critiqued my children's clothing. She then presented me a contract which she hurriedly highlighted, underlined and shoved in front of me to sign, I asked to review it first. There were many other charges on the contract in addition to the 60/40 split. One in particular was a $1/item pull charge. If your item doesn't sell, then they would charge you $1/item to remove it from their rack! When I asked shouldn't that be included in the 60%, she glared at me and said she doesn't work for free.At that point I decided to not go any further. When I told her that I wanted to take my clothes she tossed them at me with my discarded hangers and told me to "have fun".The consignors are the lifeblood to a consignment shop's inventory. One can get just about as much in a tax write-off when donating with no hassles and verbal abuse; I can purchase children's clothes at a discount store ,or at a department store on sale, for a bit more than a consignment store price and the threads are NEW and not worn. Bad word of mouth can be the end to a business. I will never step foot in their shop again. I was also fussed at for arriving to my appointment five minutes early--go figure!!
best childrens resale shop ever – i have found crayons to be the best childrens resale shop. the store is very well organized. you can find what size you are looking for and the quality of the clothes is great. they do not sell anything faded old or out of style. everything is current. they also have toys for all ages, videos, shoes, hairbows, cribs and baby/kids furniture, maternity clothes, and soooo much more. go check this store out. the staff are very friendly and more than willing to help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
