An Urban Sanctuary – This is a unique and wonderful little shop. One that I hope survives a very long time. Her shop is a secret little haven that I have shown to friends whenever I want to surprise them about what Houston has in its nooks and crannies. Lucia's Garden is not just a little retail shop, it is an experience filled with ethereal sound, scents, and visions that beg for you to take a part of home.
I have never seen diversity in her staff, they always fit a soccer mom mold and rarely are they Black, Latin, Asian; or male for that matter. Her markups are in excess of what you could find on the internet, of course. Yet she does maintain a selection that is often unique, thus not easily found on the internet.
The truth is I have not been in a while, but I have been going to this shop since it was the Moon Cottage behind what was her home in a garage apartment (1980's). It has always over the years retained a warm inviting feel. Lucia's Garden inspired me to become a Massage Therapist because all the wonderful things sold there would be perfect in a day-spa.
Beautiful unique gifts, soaps, art and music – Just being in this little cottage calms my nerves! Great essential oils, candles, chimes and (eww! lots of handmade soaps and bath oils) as well as fresh herbs growing everywhere. They also have a wonderful assortment of hard-to-find new age music and classes. This is a magical shop to find a special personal treat for yourself or a very unique gift for someone else.
Dear to the hearts of herb-lovers, this odoriferous Inner Loop sanctuary has long been a staple in the holistic community. – In Short
One gets the distinct feeling that Lucia's is a haven for wise women, the kind who run with wolves, but it seems to have its share of male clientele, too. The place has a delightfully esoteric feel to it, if reminiscent of an astral tourist gift shop. Lucia's offers a full and regular schedule of classes in everything from cooking to potpourri-making, herb-growing to aromatherapy, Reiki to feng shui. Other events include open houses, the occasional poetry reading or book signing, and the Full Moon Ritual for Women. Among the full complement of fresh and dried herbs for cooking or healing, you'll find potpourri, essential oils, jewelry, crystals, cards, music, wind chimes, sensual bath aids (batteries not included) and all sorts of spiritual gewgaws.
I little corner of heaven in Houston – I've been going to this store since they were located on W. Alabama. The minute you walk in you feel relaxed and at home. It always smells wonderful, there's always some wonderful CD playing and they have a wide variety of new age/holistic items available...some whimsical and some very healing to the heart, mind and body. They sell books, CDs, pollished stones, talismans and jewelry, fresh and dried herbs, handmade soaps, lotions and various beautiful trinkets. The reaon I give it a 9 is because the prices have a tendancy to be a bit pricey, especially on handmade items and jewelry. This is a good place to find flyers on various arts and craft related happenings in Houston. Please, don't miss checking this store out!
smells great and feels good too! – Go to Lucia's....terrific scents and a wonderful vibe. Really nice folks run the place. Sometimes selection is lagging, but give it a few visits and they will restock. A definite blessing for our city.
