Darque Tan, Lighter Wallet – Pricing seems reasonable in comparison to the competition. But why does tanning cost so much in general? Pricing/rates are on a glossy wall poster. I asked for my own paper copy. There are none available. Why? Is it because the pricing structure is relatively complicated (monthly pricing, package pricing, member pricing, "guest" pricing, 5 levels of tanning -- kudos for all the choices, I think!), and it's easier to talk a client into paying for more than he would otherwise buy if he could take the rates home to think about what he could reasonably afford? I mentioned I wanted to keep the per-tan cost down, and the friendly desk clerk launched into irrelevant mumbo-jumbo.

The clerk signed me up for an all-club monthly plan ($28.88/mo) without asking me whether that's what I really wanted. As the contract specified a 7-day money back guarantee, I signed up, intending to try a few other locations. Which I did -- and I decided I wanted the cheaper one-club membership at $18.88/mo -- at a different location. When I went back to change this, the same clerk punched a few keys and said he'd made the change in the system ("Yeah, no problem"), but he wouldn't provide a written contract -- even after I said I wanted something in writing establishing exactly what Darque would be charging me. So I asked for my money back altogether under the 7-day clause. The clerk had to telephone someone to figure out how to do this. ("I've only been here a year.") And then -- again -- there was nothing in writing (why?) to affirm that Darque and I had agreed not to exchange any more tans-for-money. After another telephone call, the clerk typed up a short note ("What do you want it to say?"), which we both signed. Hmmm, I wonder -- will they "accidentally" charge me next month?

Clean, spacious facilities. Four level-1 tans left me noticeably darker. One bed didn't work, so I switched. Why aren't there more clothes hooks in the booths?

If you can afford it, buy your own tanning bed.

ok value if you like horrible customer service and being treated badly – I have worked for this company at one point and tanned off and on for 2 years (at times it was the only tanning salon within a 10 min drive...) From the owners to the salons it is just a poor place to visit. Their prices are fair, which is why so many of my friends tan there, however, they make up for that with their complicated and expensive 'upgrade' program (which is almost necessary b/c most of their 'vip' beds are 30min beds!

Everything is much more complicated than it needs to be, I went to cancel my membership on the 13th of the month, they told me the last day to cancel was the 10th. Fair enough, I said, just cancel me for next month (they bill on the 16th) and I will tan through next 15th. The employee said that if he cancelled it would be effective immeadiately (NOT MENTIONED IN MY CONTRACT) and that basically I would be paying for a month I was not allowed to use (I had already paid through the 15th of this month and would be charged on the 16th for my next month). So I had to come in 'later' to cancel... but no specific date was given, I guess you have to actually go in on the 10th to cancel.

I am a recently graduated law student and as that cancellation policy is NOT in my contract I am looking into if that is even legal, but regardless I would HIGHLY advise anyone to stay away! Use planet beach or some other company.
