What happened to Corelli's? Went from being fantastic to terrible. Shame
Avoid – After the poor slow understaffed service, the things floating in my drink, the broken soda machines and flat sodas, the store bought frozen seafood; I thought I had suffered enough. But it was the only unusual place and service we had just prior to our credit card number being stolen and used in a different state.
Gluten free for all? – I work around the corner from Corelli's Houston and frequented lunch there often. I had to go gluten free about 8 months ago and hadn't visited since as a result but always had a wonderful experience.
Recently while sitting in a waiting room, I was reading one of the local magazines which had an article on celiacs and gluten intolerance. It mentioned local restauraunts which had gluten free menus. Corelli's was one I had not been aware of as having a gluten free menu so instead of going to one of our usuals, we decided to give Corelli's Sugar Land a try.
The wait was about 40 minutes which I didn't mind. My husband asked to see the gluten free menu while we waited however we were told there wasn't one-- we'd have to ask our server what was gluten free.
We were finally seated in the wine room which oddly had a strange windex odor and water stains on the floor. The waitress was great and was very attentive. She came to take our drink orders right away. Unfortunately, she advised us that they "substitue" for gluten free however they do have two types of gluten free pasta-- pene and spaghetti. I asked her if the sauces were gluten free... it didn't sound as if she were too familiar with what that means. I placed my order and asked her to please just make sure with the chef that the sauce is indeed gluten free before putting the order in.
Our food arrived to our table very quickly. Unfortunately again, my pasta was very undercooked-- not even al dente. It's hard enough to have to ask for gluten free as it is so of course, I didn't want to make a fuss. I just went on and ate the food. My husband insisted I at least let the waitress know so when she came by to check on us, I did tell her. She was apologetic and advised me that she would let the manager know.
The manager did come by a few minutes later and apologized although it didn't sound sincere. He explained the reason was because their other pastas come to them "half cooked" and the "cooks" only drop it in the boiling water for the remainder of the time. The gluten free pasta however comes in box and must be cooked it's full length. I hope they're not cross contaminating with the water... yikes. Obviously this cook was unaware of the difference between the two cook times. While he did offer to get me something else, my husband was almost finished eating-- it would be pointless to order again so, I explained to him that I would just take it home and bake it. He said ok, I'll get it boxed up for you. A short time later, the waitress came by and boxed everything up and brought is the bill. She looked a bit surprised looking at it and asked us if the manager had offered any sort of discount. I of course said no and told her not to worry about it. We paid the full bill and was sure to tip her over the customary as it was not her fault.
This manager's lack of concern worries me. People with special diets should not be humiliated this way nor should be left to feel we're deserving of sub par meals. I don't know if I'd go back to give them another try as the manager didn't seem concerned with keeping our business.
Eat somewhere else – I have visited Corelli's for a few years, in the past year the experience has not been good. We were there tonight. Poor service was prevalent through the whole evening. Food delivery timing was bad Tonight I had the veal Corelli and got a greasy portion that was smaller than a half slice of bologna, there was no flavor just a plate full of greasy sauce. I ordered a side of spinach and when our food came it was missing, the waiter said it will be right up. I asked for it several times while eating the main course, the waiter said sure coming right up. Finally when we were finished eating our meal the manager came and said sorry we are out of spinach, can we give you something else?? maybe some KFC takeout !
great service, delicious food, amazing homemade tiramisu – I go to the sugarland location about once a week. The staff is always very friendly and attentive to my needs. I take my clients as often as possible because I know we'll be treated well. I am very impressed with their fresh seafood dishes such as the shrimp diablo. It is nice when I walk into the restaurant and the hostess knows where I prefer to sit, most of the waitstaff recognises me and are quick to bring my ice tea and cesar without my having to order it. The tiramisu is my favorite because everywhere I go it seems like they try to pass off frozen tiramisu as authentic and its gritty. Here it is always fresh, the ladyfingers are perfectly soaked and not soggy. Its the perfect italian dessert! Best kept secret in Sugar Land!!!!
Bug In Food – They substituted the salad with a bug in it for soup, and then actually charged for the soup. This is the second occasion I am aware of with a bug in their food.
Very impressed – i first went into corelli's last week with some coworkers and was very impressed. the atmosphere was wonderful, our server john was very attentive and very nice and the food was excellent. Our food did take awhile to come out but the server assured us our food would be out and presented us each with salads (we were not even charged) while we waited. The food was well worth the wait!!! Top notch. and on our way out the server presented us a frequent dinner card for the next time we come! We will definalty be back!
Best In Town! – Recently my friends and I decided to go get some itallian food but we were sick of crumy food from Olive Garden. We saw Corelli's on the corner of Williams Trace and Hwy 6 and decided to stop in. From the start we were impressed. The hostess that sat us was so polite and the service was outstanding. We though it was too good to be true. When we took a look at the menu we saw so many choices and decided each to try something different. To our amazment the food was INCREDIBLE. Everything was cooked to perfection and it didnt leave us feeling sick after eating obviously too much of it (portion sizes were awesome). Because we were a new customer the manager came over and talked to us and was very nice, its obvious he cares. We will definately keep going back.
Outstanding! – Took another couple last Friday night for the first time and had a great time. We are new to Sugar land, but everyone told us to go to Corelli's. We were not disappointed. Great food, great wine, great prices and great friendly attentive service. We can't wait to go back. Try the shrimp appetizer with garlic bread, chicken parmesan (the best I've ever had!), grilled salmon and chocolate cake dessert.!
Attentive waitstaff and management – I was in the Sugar Land location recently. I just moved to the area and some friend's recommended Corellis for some good italian food. Aside from the food being great, i love the warm atmosphere and the homey feeling the place had. The staff was very attentive, and the management was constantly there talking to customers making sure we had a pleasant evening. If your looking for a warm pleasant environment, this is the place to go.
