I've been here more times than I can remember and I'm always happy. I can think of one time that we had a problem getting our waitor's attention, and it was on a busy, busy weekend and was easily resolved. The food I wouldn't rank "the best" Mexican food in Austin, but it's up there. The best part is, it's consistantly good. You always know what you are getting and that you'll like it. Drink the specials and you'll get great drink prices, and compared to some other places in the area, the regular drink prices are good, too!

Pros: Consistancy in service and food

Cons: Parking!

This is one of those rare TexMex food places where there is some healthy, tasty alternative to the regular if you're not feeling like cheese, meat, beans, and rice. The ceviche is outstanding with squid, scallops, fish, tons of fresh tomatoes, cilantro, and spices. The only thing I haven't figured out is why they put green olives in there---that's a first for me. Moreover, there were a lot of them to pick out of the dish. The portion is noteworthy as it is HUGE and a fantastic bargain compared to normal serving sizes/prices (similar to crabcakes). The other reasons for going there---the "purple" margarita which includes EverClear so beware and be sure to have a designated driver ready, and the fun, casual atmosphere.

Pros: potent margaritas, tasty ceviche at bargain price

Cons: are there any?

If you want marginal, dishonest service and a "the customer is always wrong" attitude then I highly recommend Baby Acapulco. We went there for happy hour for drinks and appetizers. Apparently the waitstaff has no idea what items are on the happy hour menu. Otherwise why would we have been told an item was on that menu and then get charged full price for it. When we spoke to the manager about it, you would think she would have apologized and then corrected our check, right? WRONG! Instead she demanded to know which member of the waitstaff had given us that information. Since said waitstaff member was not the one that served us, we didn't remember what he looked like. We thought saying "we don't know" would make that abundantly clear but again we were wrong. For a moment we thought she was going to parade us around the restaurant until we indentified the culprit. Unbelivable! We will never set foot in that restaurant again and advise others not to either.

Pros: none

Cons: service, management

OMG! This is the most dishonst wait staff and management you have ever seen. I went with a group of coworkers and was getting ready to leave. Each had paid there own bill and added $10 each for a tip. They charge 17% gratuity already! I had ordered 3 margaritas at happy hour prices and a 1/2 price nacho. The waiter had put 2 samplers on our bill and god knows what else. Sylvia the manager pretty much said it was our word against the waiters. 3 margaritas @ $3.75 each and one 1/2 price apetizer at $4.75 my bill came to $51.00! Very dishonest. I can only imagine the waiter was putting his friends food and drinks on hour bill. We used to go there all the time but have decided to go somewhere where they practice ethics. BE VERY AWARE! LOOK VERY CLOSELY AT BILL AND KEEP A WRITTEN TAB OF WHAT YOU ORDER!!

Pros: none

Cons: service honesty

I do not live anywhere near Austin, but I have visited a friend a few times, and he took me to Baby A's to get a margarita. I have tried them at different places (and different states) and normally do not like them, but he suggested I try one. I am so glad I did because they are WONDERFUL!! They have so many options and the drinks are well worth the money. The food and service were very good too, but I everytime I am in Austin, I have to get a margarita at Baby A's. I even tell my friends in Pennsylvania about them!

Pros: good food/drinks, friendly staff, reasonable rates

Cons: sometimes crowded, sometimes parking

I went to Baby A's for the first time on a beautiful Austin Saturday afternoon. I should have known better because Shady Grove and Chuey's both had long waits and Baby A's was half empty. The food was okay at best. It reminded me of going to a "Mexican" restaurant in my small MidWest hometown. But mediocre food isn't what promted me to write a review... it was Sunday afternoon when I went to Shady Grove to eat. Baby A's had the worst singer I have ever heard. I think it was a little girl, which would be fine for a church picnic, but not for your restaurant on a beautiful Sunday. You can't swing a stick in Austin without hitting a good band, so why they choose this, I don't know.

Pros: Prompt seating, Decent patio

Cons: So-so food, Terrible music

Baby A's has, for a long time now, had the BEST Margaritas in Austin, in the U.S. There is by far no comparison by anyother restaurant in town. And anyone that says different, must be from North of Dallas.

Pros: Margaritas!!!
