I went to the Railroad Earth concert at the House of Blues Chicago last week and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Not only did the music sound great, but it was so easy to see the band even though the place was packed and I am short. The acoustics in the venue are incredible and so is all the art work hanging on the walls. There's so much to take in that it made me want to go back just so I can get a better feel for it. My boyfriend and I had dinner there before the concert and I thought the food was excellent; very tasty, moderatley priced, and brought out fairly quickly. The wait staff was also very pleasant even though it was very busy. I would highly recommend the House of Blues, it was an awesome experience for me!

Pros: delicious food, great staff, cool artwork, fantastic venue

My family came to last Sundays Gospel Brunch and had the best time. Getting into the venue and getting seated was very well organized along with getting our food and Mamosas. The food was out standing along with the sweets table. The hand made omlettes where to die for along with the warm waffles. The performance took my breath away as the Gospels voice were amazing. I cannot wait to go back!

Pros: Quality food and service

Cons: NONE

I've seen security act completely ridiculous at House of Blues Chicago. They are aggressive for no reason on patrons who are much smaller and causing no trouble. It's like they are just waiting to get their pent up aggression out. I was at a concert there last week and witnessed security push a guy from behind and he just went flying across the room. Seeing it was really scary and made me really sick to my stomach. Besides security sucking, unless you are right in front of the stage you can't really see anything. I've been in the balcony, in the second row and haven't been able to see the stage at all. And that was for a show that wasn't even sold out. I see a lot of concerts, but I will do everything possible to avoid House of Blues Chicago. THEY ARE THE WORST. I hate that place. House of Blues in West Hollywood on the other hand is totally awesome.

Pros: It's in an awesome location, right on the river.

Cons: abusive security, horrible, disorganized staff. Lack of concern for their patrons. Horrible sightlines.

The House of Blues provided me with one of the worst concert experiences of my life. Take a look through the rest of these comments, they all say the same thing. I was excited about this concert, but left disappointed. I attend dozens of concerts in a year, but I will never step into a House of Blues again.

This is absolutely the worst music venue in Chicago, if not in the midwest. Anyone who actually likes music should not go anywhere near it. There are no sight lines. The sound is terrible unless you are on the ground floor. (Did I mention no sight lines?) And the security people are absolutely ridiculous. The crowd is full of amateurs. Stay very, very far away.

Pros: None

Cons: Bunch of morons, gimmicky

The music venue is nice, everything else about HOB is quite miserable. I went to a show over the summer, and the security staff is one of the worst you will ever have to deal with. These knuckledraggers were roughing up kids left and right for slam dancing. It got to the point where I literally was tempted to jump in, in defense of the kids getting beat up. The whole thing kind of ruined the night for me. Drinks are way over priced, but what else is new. Also, do not bring cameras because they are not allowed in, they do not print this on the tickets, so if you bring one you have to check it.

House of Blues Chicago provided me with one of the worst nights of my life. Went to a punk show last weekend and got BEAT by a group of the security staff. Apparently I was too drunk in the mosh pit from the WAY OVERPRICED alcohol they served me. I have witnesses stating I was leaving peacefully with them telling my friends I'd meet them outside after the show. I was being asked to leave, no big deal even though I dont think I was deserving of even that. Next thing I know I'm in a back room, my brother gets put into handcuffs and has his head smashed against a wall and when I try to protest (vocally) I was on the ground getting stomped, punched and kicked by the security staff. Not just body shots, but hits to the head. I was in law enforcement and that is called LETHAL FORCE. And no surprise the staff had a Chicago police sargent on the team. I managed to snap a picture of one of the guys and my injuries. Eventually this place will go down. I strongly recommend going anywhere else. Even if you dont get beat up like me, your wallet will and its all gonna go to the lousy staff.

Pros: good bands booked

Cons: Security with rage, beatings, overpriced drinks, possible death

What a scam! Went for a concert (queensryche) and it was a joke. First off the tickets said it started at 7:30. Well no music till 10:00! When they did play it was only for an hour and new music and only two popular songs. Good way to get you in to buy their semi-cold overpriced cans of booze. If you want to go out and smoke...no way! If you leave there will be no re admittance! Sound quality sucked, packed, no where to sit all seats are reserved. I will NEVER return there! Parking was outrageous. Just plain terrible!

Pros: none

Cons: Just a big scam

It's just a great place to enjoy with friends. Everyone who works there, from the merchandise store to the door people and resturant are all kind and welcomiing.

Cons: Not much music for us older folks

The House of Blues in Chicago way outdoes it's counterpart in Los Angeles. For one, it's massive. The VIP area is great, if you can get in. Any dance party held here somehow always gets that right energy going. And the multi-level thing is just AMAZING. Gay party events here are HOT.

Editor's Review

Downtown venue with lush setting, excellent acoustics and strong bookings.  See the full editorial review.
