I have just read the reviews posted here for Sutra. I have been there myself about 6 or 7 times over the past two years (the last time being only about a month ago) so I thought I'd add my two cents and perhaps comment on some of the points made. I used to go out dancing all the time, but the OC night club scene has changed alot and I guess so have I. I've since been to a few other hot spots in the area, but Sutra is always a number pick for me. I honestly like a more intimate setting, a place that's not huge or with lots of big dance floors. It makes it more fun and "cozy" for a lack of a better word. And Sutra is definitely "Cozy". The crowd from my experience tends to good looking, well dressed and definitely upscale. Yes, the drinks are pricey, but to be expected at a place like that. And then again, the pour is generous. My only complaint is I wish they'd feature a broader mix of dance music. Hip hop all night long becomes redundant, in my opinion. I'm sure the DJ is just playing what he's told to play and so for that, I must say he mixes a great flow. I have heard many to compare to. As for their food, I've never had it so I can't comment. I have only heard that it's good. As far as cocktail service at the table, never a problem. The waitress always coming around and bringing another round of drinks upon request. The bar service, same thing. Never a problem getting drinks. Friendly service and yes, they are all beautiful, not that I'm gay. Lol! All things considered, I'd recommend this club to anyone looking for a decent place to party in Orange County. We need more places like this to go to release the stress of a long work week. Last thought. I wish I could offer more criticism, but I'm the type to take real complaints to management. Other wise I write about positive experiences. And I write honestly. Happy clubbing, everyone! Oh and Happy Halloween. I'm obviously staying in tonight.

I've been to Sutra several times, & it has yet to be a busted mission ... my last visit was when a group of friends (12ppl) & I met for dinner (no VIP/table service just dinner) as a going away party for 1 of our friends & had a blast ... service was friendly & prompt ... we even received a complimentary appetizer platter which included calamari, sushi, etc.... & it was great ... i decided to get the steak for dinner & shared w/my gf ... honestly, it was good & was enough to share ... as far as partying, i've always had a blast at sutra, people are great over all ... music is always good (top 40, hiphop, pop) ... only con about it is, it's such a party scene that it gets reallllllllyyyyyyy crowded ... but that's when you know it's a good spot when so many people go ... they sometimes even have artists (famous or upcoming) perform live ... Sutra's always been good to me, & their drinks has always done the job for me :-) ... I have yet to drive away from sutra ... i'm always taken home by a cab ... I dont know what night these other people go w/their bad reviews (seems like ppl always only write reviews for anything after a bad experience anyway) ... but as I said, I have yet to have a bad night at Sutra ... & no, I dont work there nor did I get paid to write this review ... just honestly have always had a good time at Sutra & always look forward to going back.
Pros: Dance club w/great music
Cons: Gets crowded

Went for a friends birthday party, which got us out of the cover they charged the couple in front of us, even though it was only 9. Turned into club at 10, and was very full by 11. Seemed to be lots of barely 21, and some looked to be underage even. The Deejay would have been fine is he would have bothered to play a song for more than 45 seconds. Highly annoying since after you adjust to one beat, you have to figure out a whole new one. Not fun to dance to.
Pros: Good dance floor
Cons: Mean security, Bad deejay

This place was once a classy joint but not anymore. First of all they are too lax with their dress code in that now foolish mob members are walking in this place with their foolish white tee attire. I wet to this place after watching a couple of games at a sports bar, going here was a mistake. The place was full with a samoan organized mob who later cowardly tried to jump two gentlemen outside for no reason whatsoever.. They are the same people who were bullying people in the club pushing them and looking for a fight all thie time. The security at this place is too lenient with who they let in. In a nutshelll if you are going to risk your life going here, avoid standing next to any of those mob foolish members in sagging jeans and white tees. Especially teh samoans they are there to look for trouble half the time. This place has to have better security and control who is getting into their club to at least get their class back.
Pros: Music
Cons: Bad crowd

Sutra Lounge is definitely one of the classiest and liveliest nightclubs in OC. Music is great and the customers reflect a exciting sense of fashion by their choice of outfits. However, everybody's way too snobby unless you are on steroids, covered with tattoos, and walk around with a $1000 cash in your hand to show off. But that's the saddest and ultimate truth about the OC anyway. The other main issue is that the place actually is a little bit small. Dance floor to be exact. My overall perspective on this club is very pleasing and it deserves a solid 4-star. Sutra is a great choice for both Fridays and Saturdays.

This was my first time at Sutra on a Thursday night.......our group consisted of 5 girls and 2 guys.....and we know a promoter so we got to pass up the long line and waltzed right in. My first impression was that it was a lot smaller than I expected but it seemed ok, boy was i wrong. So.....i cant complain about the drinks.....because they are pretty strong.......but like I said it doesnt hurt to know a promoter. Anyway the place is extremely cramped......and the dancefloor is tiny. Not to mention the music and the people........geez.......i felt like i had just flashed back to highschool. Honestly I really cant imagine what this place looks like with the lights on........because something smelled horrible. We saw Paris Hilton and Benji Madden.......and underager Ryan Scheckler........but since when is that a reason to go to a crappy club. After two drinks we ended up going across the street to a dive bar.....which was surprisingly a better experience. If you want to have an amazing clubbing experience make the trek up to LA.....
Pros: decent drinks
Cons: everything else......

After reading so many not so pleasant reviews on this particular lounge, but I had no choice to book it because all the LA clubs were all booked that night and I need a place to celebrate my birthday. Anyway, so I had my birthday party at Sutra on Saturday. I have to say it was a busy night with long lines, but my guests and I didn't have to wait in line because we've reserved a table. The bouncer and VIP host were very friendly to myself and my guests. VIP host got me a table just right next to the bar where I could see everything going on at Sutra. Our waitress was so nice and helpful to our party. She kept coming once in a while and asked us if we need anything. Oh, forgot to mention, they even gave me a "gatekeeper" for my table. And the guy was so funny, too. I had a blast at Sutra that night. Service was excellent! Music was great! People were hot! I will definately go back again soon.
Pros: Great place for party of 10+ and Great service

Let me start off by saying that I am in the entertainment industry. I had been to Sutra in the past but only when I or one of my companies have rented out the entire building for photo shoots or tv release parties. This is the one and only good thing about Sutra. It has nice decor. I went to Sutra the other day to write a review on the club. I had two beautiful females with me. I'm am a pretty hot female myself. One of the girls was there to shoot photos for a website and the other just to have fun. When we got there there was no line and we were on the list. The lovely bouncer out front with flame tattoos on his face immediately started hassling us and refusing to let us in. Even after I told him that we were there to work and were willing to pay the cover he still would not let us in. Even his boss told him to let us in and he refused. Apparently this ogar with with the intelligence of a fourth grader had more pride then to let three beautiful woman into their club.
Pros: Getting to look underage girls get into clubs
Cons: Everything

After researching extensively online great spots to go for dining and dancing, a friend and I settled on the Sutra lounge despite its horrible reviews. My girlfriend and I are both in our late 30's but KNOW how to party like a rock star but at the same time demonstrate class. So our experience starts as we walk into the sutra lounge at around 9:50 pm there was no line and no cover charge but we were told that they have stopped serving meals so we thought we were not going to be able to eat. as we walk in the atmosphere was calming, there was no one on the dance floor (yet) and we proceeded to look for a place to sit. We walked up to two bouncers standing near the patio and asked where we could sit. One of them (David aka "D") proceded to escort us to the patio area outside for seating. We inquired again about food being served and he said that the kitchen is closing down but we can order appetizers since its not a big meal. He also proceded to find us a waitress who was VERY friendly, and who also took very good care of us. we did in fact order 2 appetizers that tasted great (a little over priced) and drinks. The entire time during our meal we had other waitresses AND bouncers come by and ask if we were okay and if we needed anything just ask. After we finished our meal, David escorted us to a table by the dance floor and told the bouncer covering that area to keep an eye on us and our table if we get up to dance. The place did get packed but that says that its a good place to be, because if there was nobody at the club then people would say its a dud. The music was great (No techno, thank goodness). Some of the guys were snooty but for the most part I danced all night. My friend and I were NOT on any VIP list , did not have reservations and did not order bottle service (although next time we will) and we were still treated like VIP. David the bouncer treated us like we were his family.
Pros: GREAT SERVICE, Good music, professional employees
Cons: Food is overpriced

I really don't know where to begin. After being dragged to Triangle Square late on a Saturday night, and after surveying the crowd, I knew this night was going to end badly. After receiving a blessing from 30'something bouncer man we were in, that is after we ante'd up $20 a piece to cash register girl. First impression inside: dirty. The place was easily 100% over capacity. Not only could you not dance, you could not walk or even stand in one place- imagine a really bad rap concert, in a really poor attempt at a vegas club, stocked full of people you would never associate with in the sober daytime. Ok, here's where it gets rich. So, I'm with three girls and myself, we walk to what I think is the least crwoded bar (on the patio), and try to order drinks. There on two windows, one on right, one on left. I stand at the left window and try to make eye contact with bartender. Look, this reviewer has been a bartender and knows how this mess of drunks, begging for drinks is supposed to operate. After being passed over for three customers (who got to the window after me, elapsed time, 10 minutes), one of the ladies I was with managed to get his attention and ordered. After pouring two of the four drinks she had asked for, she asked again for the other two. Bartender gets all frazzled and quickly pours the other drinks. Then she asks for a glass of water, he ignores her. She says, "I guess I don't get any water!" He yells, "hey, you'd get it faster if you asked correctly the first time. Needless to say, at this moment he lost his tip...or did he? I paid with my AMEX ($40 for two White Russians & two Vodka Redbulls!) and under tip wrote SCREW YOU. I was angry, we ended up leaving within 45 minutes and I thought that was that. Upon checking my credit card statement I noticed that my overpriced four cocktails for $40 was magically $50 on my AMEX statement. I have yet to resolve this issue, but I will keep you posted.
Pros: When compared to other clubs, I don't know of any Pros
Cons: Service, Price, Atmosphere, Size, etc.
