This hotel is absolutely perfect! The customer service is amazing, the staff are prepared to provide for any request, and the hotel lounge provides a great place to hang out and people watch. I recently stayed here for a night with my boyfriend and enjoyed the ultra-comfortable beds, the cool in room lightening system, and the relaxing roof top pool area. At the end of the day we wen down to the 'Zinc' lounge which is the trendy bar area. It was a great place to people watch and drink martinis. Overall, our stay was exceptional, and there is nothing that could have been better! Worth a stay even if your a local.
Pros: Great beach location and superb luxury hotel!
Cons: A little pricey.

We love to photograph weddings at the Shade Hotel. We operate www.losangelesweddingphoto. Besides being the hippest place in town, the small, cozy atmosphere of the hotel pays off at your wedding. There's room for probably 200 or so people in the courtyard--and from what I understand, brides and grooms can reserve the entire hotel for their guests. The hotel is two blocks from the beach--great for photographers who want to steal away their couple for some quick romantic beach shots during the reception--and right in the center of town.

This is a great hotel! I live in L.A but wanted to treat my husband to a birthday getaway, and found some great reviews for 'Shade' on this site. Having never forked out for a weekend away in the same city as I live in before, I was dubious about how much it'd feel as if I was on holiday. But it really did feel like a vacation. The best thing about the hotel is the rooms and its location. The rooms are beautifully decorated in sage and cherry wood, and the bed is large and really comfy. The bar has all kinds of glasses for different drinks and even a blender, so in the evening (to save money) we bought alcohol from the local VONS and made our own cocktails. The best feature of the room is the huge whirlpool bath, but coming in a close second is the fantastic lighting! You can choose to light the room various colors, and by pulling the Japanese screen across the bathroom (where the lights are) you produce your very own light show. It sounds a bit gimmicky but it's actually very relaxing and creates a great mood. Hotels can sometimes feel a bit clinical, but this one was very intimate and relaxing. The balcony was also nice. Location cannot be faulted. Practically next to the beach, there is a great French cafe right next door for breakfast and nice restaurants all around. It feels pretty classy but relaxed. There's also a 'Color Me Mine' nearby, where my hubby and I painted our own souvenir mugs! This is a great place for a romantic getaway...leave the kids at home though! Oh, one last thing! The staff are extremely helpful and friendly...always a plus!

Stayed here on a recent Saturday night to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The service was exactly what you'd expect of a small, boutique hotel - I ask for a bucket of ice at the front desk when I checked in and it arrived at my room 30 seconds after I did. The room was nice and spacious, with all the amenities. The staff was friendly and helpful and even called after we left to let us know we'd forgotten something in the room. The only thing that keeps this hotel from getting 5 stars is its pool, which is very small and located o the roof. But when you're only 4 blocks from the beach, it's an easy thing to overlook.

Stayed there for Christmas and it was a great Christmas indeed. The Romantic Getaway package is worth the price... The hot tub connected to the room was great... I have been to the Bonaventure, Biltmore, Hyat (Century City), Checkers, etc... But this was THE BEST PLACE. Service was amazing! The staff was prompt, courteous and helpful... even on Christmas!!! Just looking at the website should make you want to go... and please do... you will not regret it!!!
Pros: EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!!!
Cons: a little pricey, but you get what you pay for... try the romance package

This hotel is fantastic. Romantic, funky room, mood lighting, mini bar, blender, espresso machine, iron, hair dryer, and awesome service. The whirlpool tub is big enough for 2, or 1 looking to do some serious relaxing. The bathrobe was so comfortable, I took bought 2. The memory foam type bed and pillows gave me a fantastic night sleep every night, and it's so close to the beach, awesome restaurants (Petros right around the corner is NOT to be missed) shops and bars. I HIGHLY recommend Shade to anyone looking for a high quality hotel experience.

at least for now. friday and saturday nights can get rowdy @ the bar area. the staff here was great. As my gfriend and i were looking for a place to sit, the staff at Shade hotel allowed us to sit in a reserved area (since the reserved party couldn't make it). The bartenders and waitresses have always been kind and accomidating. parking is easy, prices on drinks and food were reasonable... a nice place to hang out on the weekend in the South Bay.
Pros: service, prices, parking
Cons: crowded

This isn't your normal beach hotel. I live in the city and have put friends and relatives up at this very swank, yet cozy hotel. We like to nibble on the small plates at the bar and take in the surrounding shops and restaurants... its a great experience. The beach is three blocks away for summer swimming or winter strolls on the strand.
