Well, to start, we didn't have a reservation, BIG mistake. We stood around in the doorway for an hour, OUR mistake, while everyone gazed at us over their food like a circus side-show that only got attention because it took up space in front of them. When we finally got seated, we were attended to rather quickly, though it took some time to get drinks other than the water offered. But the big problem was the food, and mine sucked. I ordered the lamb sausage, and I'm used to lamb, like the lamb at the store, or at other restaurants that is not overly spiced. Sausage to me means big with lots of meat in the sausage, like say oh I don't know, Italian sausage, or German sausage. You know the kind that overfills a bun, or comes by itself, but is big enough to slice into mouth full chunks. Yeah, wrong answer; I got three tiny long worm-like dog terd shaped strands of meat accompanied by a pile of navy beans (yuck). The lamb was spicy and didn't taste like lamb. I was furious and very mad, especially since the waitress didn't even check up on us until everyone, but me, finished their meals. She never bothered to stop by the table and check up on us, and tracking her down would've taken a congressional subpoena. When she asked me why I didn't like it I told her. When she asked what kind of lamb I was expecting or what I was used to, I told her (something bigger than my neighbors dog-terd). She told me that it was prepared the Italian way and implied that it was obviously my fault I didn't like it, not the foods fault for being so small and unappetizing. I could have fit the entire meal in a ziplock sandwich bag. The plate it came on was the plate used for the new york strip, yeah that kinda what I had in mind, but in lamb. My friends dish had 5 times the food in a smaller plate. To make matters worse, they didn't even comp the meal!!!!!! That's right, I paid for it, only because I get reimbursed for meals. I tell my friends and coworkers not to go. I'll never go back!!

I just went to Edo's Squid for the first time last Sunday. I read reviews of Edo's Squid and on numerous sights everyone agreed the food was great, but the service was aweful. Well, knowing that, we set our expectations low on the service in order to not spoil the evening, but was happily surprised at getting great service as well as great food. The only issue that we had was the smoking. The restaurant is small and you sit close to your neighbors, so if someone is smoking - everyone is smoking. I hope they consider making the restaurant smoke-free.
Pros: excellent food, fun atmosphere, interesting menu items
Cons: smoking, tables very close together

This is a sister restaurant to Mama Zu's and is located on the second floor above Stuffy's Subs in the VCU area. Just an outstanding space - and they take reservations. Ask for a windown table. You can smell the garlic as you walk up the steps. Go for the chalkboard specials, and if you like fresh fish this is your place. An outstanding place for a celebratory dinner. Not fancy at all, but a terrific ambience. Highly recommended.
Pros: fresh fish entrees, wonderful place to celebrate
Cons: can be a little noisy due to all that brick
